I guess we know where Dan stands on upgrading our conference affiliation now. He seems to think the Valley is the place to be.

Well, we certainly know that's how his bosses feel, otherwise they'd be working on the contingency plan they should be. Then they'll continue to wonder why fans don't come out in droves to support a program/dept that doesn't want to better itself.....it's insanity!

I love the tweet for these reasons:

1. It was heartfelt. Dan feels that there is an unfair system in place and he's calling it out time and time again. In year's past, some of these coach's would say something about how their team got screwed, and move on. It never caught attention. They didn't want to burn bridges in case some day a P5 came calling. Dan doesn't give a crap. He's leading by example. Other coaches in the Valley need to step up and speak out. It's courageous in a way.

2. He didn't rip Creighton for leaving, he didn't even rip Wichita for leaving. He essentially rubbed salt in the wounds of a coach and program that has very little class. Dan wouldn't have taken the same approach if it were say a Jacobson/UNI departure. Marshal is and has shown no humility and no respect. Be it ripping on the conference he's in, proclaiming there's a conspiracy for them to lose in the tourney, whether he be verbally assaulting a ref, etc. Marshall brings this kind of attention.

3. To me, it gives attention to another issue....the fact that schools feel the need to move around just to have a fair shot at getting in. It's best for the Valley, and other mid-majors.

4. In an era of political correctness, and not wanting to say what you think for fear of retribution...he's taking the stance that the truth sets you free. It's controversial. But right now, college basketball could use that kind of controversial.

If only my stream of consciousness were equally valued. Still waiting for Dan to actually move the needle. Maybe more time recruiting instead of tweeting would accomplish more.

Whatever the AAC is playing Wichita, It is quickly devoured, and then some by the huge costs in travel they now have to provide for ALL of the their sports teams.

have wondered if Shocker Nation would be able to sustain the departure of G3 and/or large player class.

They will lose six seniors plus potentially Shamet, as he is being projected borderline first round NBA material, next season ... seven of their ten man rotation in one swoop.

WSU fans seem to have forgotten their long fourteen year journey (1989-2002) in the MVC desert when they were the short pole in the MVC tent. The Mark Cohen/Scott Thompson/Randy Smithson-era, no above .500 seasons. Even Mark Turgenev only achieved moderate success before bolting to Texas A&M.

They can go one of two ways, as proven by the previous two conference departures, Creighton and Tulsa. The Bluejays have managed to remain relevant, while the Golden Hurricane is (more often than not) regular season conference schedule filler.

The 45 seconds he took to tweet that is not just time well spent. It falls into the category of recruiting.

I hope the teams who want to leave that conference - U Conn, Central Florida, Houston, and Cincinnati - are able to in the next round of conference realignment or simply as the opportunity arises.

When I see 5 actual D1 players wearing Redbird uniforms, maybe I’ll believe that.

Have to ask, but would you even know what five D1 players look like?

If you are implying that watching ISU MBB is making me dumber, you may be on to something.

I hope they are able to as well, I like to see hard work and investing in/building your program, rewarded. I wish Illinois State had done what was necessary to advance the athletic dept/university, sadly they have not.

Ask any Shocker fan.......the years 1989-2003 never existed. Their epic suckage never existed.

How many remember when Confernce USA was the hot new start-up?

C-USA was formed when Alabama-Birmingham, Cincinnati, DePaul, Houston, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, North Carolina-Charlotte, Saint Louis, South Florida, Southern Mississippi and Tulane did not like their conference lot in life.

How many managed to go Power 5? One (Louisville).

How many managed to go (basketball only) Big East? Two (DePaul, Marquette).

How many went to original Big East (because of football), then fell back into American Athletic when BE went solely basketball? Two (Cincinnati, South Florida).

How many went up to AAC directly? Three (Houston, Memphis, Tulane).

How many have gone to (what is now) a seemingly parallel basketball conference? One (Saint Louis).

How many remain from the original C-USA conglomeration? Two (Alabama-Birmingham, Southern Mississippi).

How many fell back in terms of affiliation? One (North Carolina-Charlotte).

So, a lot of what the AAC is from what the original C-USA was (same could be said of the Mountain West from the Western Athletic).

And who is to say the top of the AAC and MWC join forces, leaving the remaining.AAC/MWC members to try and pick the best from C-USA? Then C-USA fills in from Mid-American and Sun Belt?

As far as the remaining AAC members, they have been on a 25-plus year quest to improve their lot, and only three truly have. The rest would change addresses in a heartbeat as well.

NOTE: not saying Illinois State wouldn't either, but those other schools have spent/are spending an inordinate amount of money to try and get a golden ticket that rarely gets handed out. Would we go to C-USA, MAC or SBC as a potential stepping stone, or do we wait until the AAC or MWC comes calling (honestly, it seems like virtually no one leave the MAC or SBC once they get in)?

Plus, Wichita State has (probably) gone as far as they can go without football. Their only other leap is (as of now) the Big East, and I do not see that happening (personally, I think they are one coaching change away from potentially being another DePaul).
