Lots of moving parts here.

G-cubed was not, and has never been, the most gracious of winners ... and he has no problem throwing shade for any reason (such as the Shockers good fortune that a supposed football-based conference membership decided it needed a non-football institution to raise basketball relevance. G3 loved to talk about what leaving the Valley behind could/would do for them.

Having said that, if we had a similar opportunity most of us would have wanted to take advantage.

As far as Dan, maybe it was a little below the belt in terms of WuShock in particular, but not in regards to conference perception.

Last year, Wichita State was a ten seed. This year they are a four seed. Essentially the same players (top thirteen returned). Very similar RPI. Only significant difference was conference membership - and that got them six slots. Maybe this is part of what Dan is trying to again point out - about the committee and the process.

And maybe, just maybe, it buys ISU/MVC something come 2019.

Plus you don’t think our players loved it? And recruits? They know their coach has their backs and future recruits know it too!

I liked the tweet and think it was great PR as well as getting at the larger picture. What did he tweet that was factually incorrect? Nothing.
Was WSU or Marshall mentioned? No
Dan was just sticking up for our conference and our team. Last year Dan was sticking up for our team. Every year people want to complain about the mid-majors getting screwed by P5 getting all the bids but when Dan tweets about it they complain that he shouldn’t have sent the tweet because we haven’t been to the dance in 20yrs. Who cares? Can only teams that have been to the dance try and make a point?
I bet that after both last years tweet and also this years that there were a lot of HS and college players, even 4-5 star players, looking up Illinois State Redbirds Basketball. Will we land a 4-5 star recruit that will play here because of it? Maybe not, but we have a better chance with a player that hears about a coach actually sticking up for his team and conference than one that sticks his head in the sand.

Awesome tweet by ISU HC Dan Muller!1 :cool:

I find it interesting that the ISU "fans" on here that have a problem with it are the same posters that are constantly (post by post) ripping on the program that they supposedly support. I swear some of the posters are trolls from other programs that stay on Redbirdfan and pretend to be Bird fans, so they can over and over rip on everything ISU.

Anyhoo, thank you Dan and.....

GO YOU REDBIRDS!!! :auto-sportbike:

I think this makes Dan looks petty and small. And jealous, really. No need to punch down to Triple G’s level. Rise above.

Agree! Dan can’t even make the NIT and he is calling out Marshall...lol.

It's awesome and I'm glad he did it. And for the girls who are sad because Dan isn't in the tournament yet, he PLAYED and starred in it. More the pasty fat loser marshall can ever dream of. And marshalls defense went from 15 with Jans to 130 without him.

Dan's team was more than qualified to dance last year, but the bilass boys kept them out.

If marshall is smart, he'll get out of there now. He can still get a bigtime job - Louisville? - and witchita can sink to sub-mediocrity.

He raises a good point. Changing the conference clearly did not help WSU this year.

?????.........i would guess donor support is up, ability to recruit talent is easier, ability to schedule is enhanced, the almighty dollar from royalty/tickets/revenue sharing has likely increased, the Wichita State University name is associated with some higher academic universities and I would bet that fans/students/alumni enjoy the regular season much more.

Their problem is the top schools in that conference want out, one more round of realignment and they may not like their spot as much..

You and half the people on here were probably in diapers when Dan made the layup to beat Tennessee. As a life long bird fan...I don’t support these comments unless he can accomplish an invite himself.

They may not like it as much but it will still be far better than where they were especially when factoring in ability to generate revenue, fan interest, ability to recruit....etc.

If that time every comes, I can only hope we are on the list of potential replacements. If so, the eventual invite would have to be on someone’s view of our potential because we have to agree the track record is lacking.

Maybe the true problem with the VALLEY is that we have not had a GREEN team....thus no luck....
Next new team needs to wear GREEN uniforms.

For those bashing Dan, go look at he comment section from Jim Benson’s last tweet.

GG is a piece of trash, and Dan took the garbage to the curb.

Simple as that.

Good post, BirdsFlyHigh. Seriously, it just gets old to come on here, and find a few posters always twist anything even a little bit positive turned into something bad. We are bad, the Valley is bad, yada, yada, yada. Our head coach gets great national press, defends our conference, calls out a total jerk coach who has insulted the conference that gets his but kicked in the first round when our tourney entry advances. But we have a couple of voices that has to remind us they think our program stinks and the Valley stinks. What Dan did was borderline genius. He said exactly the right thing at a perfect time. I agree with BirdsFlyHigh. I am almost to the point where a couple of you are BradleyFans plants or from a place like that to try to destroy morale or just make our program look bad.

And should have last year, and as a lifelong 'Bird fan I love the tweet. Sticking up for the Valley, and in a round about way his own team and all mid-majors shafted by the committee, plus a bigg digg at WSU thinking they are bigger than the Valley.

Love the attitude from Muller.

The only problem with the tone of the tweet is that some national media are focusing on the (delicious) Marshall dig rather than why MVC and other deserving mid-major teams are being excluded from the NCAA tournament. Despite, as Muller points out in earlier tweets, the MVC teams that DO make the tournament acquitting themselves well against the so-called big dogs.

UVA, WSU, Texas, Arizona and some other large travel well teams biting the bullet.

Let's go Loyola, Nevada, UMBC, Buffalo, Gonzaga, Butler, Xavier, Rhode Island, Marshall etc.

We should have last year...lol! I will agree with you...that we should have. We didn’t! We won’t next season either. I supported the hire of Dan, and he was a stud player. But, he is lacking as a coach. Instead of tweeting he should be making sure every kid will be eligible next season, and working on bringing in a solid big boy to clog the middle. I would be doing an over hau; of this roster right now. We aren’t far from it...but need to make some changes.

This is just lazy.

Complete overhaul AND making sure every kid will be eligible next season. Which is it?

And how does a tweet that takes 30 seconds to write detract from coaching, recruiting, and retaining? If Dan is lacking as a coach, so is every other other one of his contemporaries (minus Moser this year) in the Valley. His point is a broader making sure he has the right kids every year and pray for no injuries and not laying a single egg on the schedule -- the point is that more Valley teams are deserving of NCAA bids each year.

Here's what the coach you say is "lacking" has done since arriving as a rookie head coach 6 years ago:
* MVC tourney finals 3 of last 4 years,
* Best regular season record ever last year.
* Exceeding preseason expectations every year.
* A team this year with Copeland and healthy David and Clarence, not to mention healthy Evans and Fayne down the stretch would have had a much better record.
* Upgraded schedule.
* Clean program.
* Arrow still pointing up.

Yes we haven't been to NCAA under Muller, but we've been damn close. I'd be concerned if we were has been performing as consistently bad as Evansville, Drake or Bradley in the same time period. Muller is correctly calling a spade a spade in (what I'm guessing) he hopes the national media will help shame the NCAA. It' s more than Doug Elgin or anyone else in the league is apparently willing to do.
