How in the heck do you call three pass plays in OT???? After a decent running game the second half - then pass three times - just Stupid.

The lack of an Offensive Coordinator continues to plague us.

Same way he let a team go 80 yards in a minute and a half without going into a prevent defense to take the FCS Championship trophy right out of his hands.

What a trolling fan base we have that knows nothing about football. I clearly was watching a different game.

I was the only one thinking “To bad we don’t have a seasoned passing QB this game because a balanced attack would have won it”.

And at the same time the guys kept battling and almost stole one from the Jacks. The loss sucks, but not as much as most of the reaction on here.

I just want somebody to ask the coaches why they played so conservative and hear if they have any justification.
I think someone has the opposite question for Brian Kelly with a backup QB throwing a pick 6...Asking the backup QB to do something he isn’t experienced to do.

I was watching a game where the players busted their asses for 60 minutes only to have the coaches snatch victory from their hands.

Just curious how many people actually thought we would tie the game back up after Christion’s 84 yard TD run?

Or how many people thought we would make the 3rd and 22...or the 4th and 3 if not for the defensive holding (which was incorrectly enforced by the refs by not giving us the Auto 1st down) until Spack called TO to say WTF?

Had a lot of stuff go are way with turnovers, the guys battled their asses off, and we we ended on the wrongside of a kickoff between Field Goal kickers in OT.

Coach Spack has Tuesday news conferences where he talks for 20-25 minutes on Goredbirds...I’d suggest more people tuning in to be enlightened. He’s always very truthful and goes into great depth talking about game situations and film from the previous week.

The thing is we wouldn’t have been in a 3rd and 22 situation if Spack, or whoever, would have been calling running plays. Instead they abandoned the 5 yard per carry running game in favor of putting our fate in the hands of a QB who was off target all game and on the biggest stage of his very young (but promising) career.
You can spin it anyway you want but our coaches screwed the pooch...multiple times.

2-11 on 3rd downs

10-18 passing for 102 yards

Broadnax played better than I expected and he had a lot of grit and toughness when the game was on the line.

But until he can make throws over the middle of the field consistently and not just bubble screens we are all fooling ourselves into thinking we should be driving the field consistently...especially with 1:15 on the clock and starting at our 17 yard line.

Again was I watching the same game as most people???

SDSU got the ball back with 2:14 to go after we tie the game 24-24.

They start driving from their 36 on first down all the way to the 50 after a completion with 2:09.

Next pass is complete down to our 37 and they are most likely going to win the game...except for a Holding Penalty.

Luckily their drive stalls being behind the chains and we get the ball back on our 17 with 1:15 and SDSU with all 3 TO’s (which they started using to try and get the ball back) until we converted 3&3 with 1:06 left.

Again, what had Broadnax done throwing the ball during the game that would make anyone think now would be a good time to start chucking it with 1 minute left at our 31?

What the hell did we have to lose exactly?

You clearly like the conservative approach in that scenario, which resulted in an overtime loss, and you want everyone to pat you on the back?

OK, Walter Camp.

Thanks for teaching everyone the game tonight! Solid!

Our offense rushed the ball 47 times and attempted 18 passes (completing 10 passes).

Losses suck everyone, but without a passing game it’s hard to just run the ball to victory with an Underclassman OL.

Not sure how many caught this stat today but they said that SDSU was 18 for their last 18 scoring in the red zone before today's game (16 TDs I think). Playing for overtime was a suicide mission...

Edit: also, I get that the Redbird defense stopped them but when their kicker's last name is Vinatieri you're already well within his range.

Game will be on Replay on ESPN 3.

Everyone that frequents this site, please watch the film and then Email our coaches with what they should have done differently. I know they will appreciate the extra help with their jobs.

1&10 from the 25 in OT was a Completed Pass for 3 yards

2&7 and everyone was saying run the ball into a stacked box on here and probably at SDSU.

Yet we have man to man with Fowler up top (who maybe should have benefited from PI). I don’t know...call me crazy...but I really don’t hate the call looking back at it.

They pressured Malachi hard on 3&7 and he did the smart thing and just threw it away.

I'm with you RB4L. I saw a different game than our emotional friends. Ain't exactly the easiest thing to game plan your RS freshman QB to victory against a really good team on the road. Our guys almost pulled this one out - very proud Redbird today.

Can't join the chorus of criticism toward the coaching staff. Actually, I think this was a really well coached effort that almost succeeded. Will further bet you that Stielgelmeyer would say the same.

I really hate criticizing amateur athletes, so I'll just say this. Jake Kolbe is the best QB we have when both are healthy. Like RB4L said, some of us saw a different game today.

Again, I don’t think that we should have been throwing the ball at the end of regulation. I think we should have been managing the clock, running the ball which was our strength and using our timeouts if need be. We literally got the ball and sat on it for the last 1:15 rather make any attempt at scoring. All I wanted was to see ya TRY to get in field goal range, on the ground if need be. When you’re gashing them for 4.2 ypc, why not TRY to use your timeouts and get a couple more cracks at busting a big one into field goal range?

I hate having had the ball and 3 timeouts and not trying to run plays with the game on the line. THAT is my complaint. We could have had 3 more plays to try to get into FG range if we had used our timeouts.

“A bullet out of the barrel is a chance, a bullet still in your gun is nothing.” USE THE TIMEOUTS, extend the game, TRY for positive yardage.

I agree with that, FWIW.

When I realized that we were playing the #6 FCS team on their field with our #2 QB I thought the game could really get away from us so I was pleased with how our guys battled to the end of regulation and beyond. I thought the defense in particular played well - Barry, Conley, Harris etc.

This team has played better as an underdog so I'm hoping for another strong effort against NDSU. If they Ball Out for 4 quarters and come up with one more big play the Redbirds can win and extend their season.

I expect this is a minority opinion, but I think if we play well against the herd, that's gonna get us in. No question, we've been beat, but the ugly dogs are the only bad loss. Got a couple goods wins to overwhelm that one bad loss.
