This crap has been going on forever. As long as there's an NCAA it will continue.
Next time you want to blame Dan for losing a recruit....Cough up some cash.

I was friends with Nick W when he played at Illinois back in the day & know what he was making. And it wasn't new then.

In the Nick & Nicky days in Champaign.

Just saw that. Wonder if any of these schools or players will face punishment? Now we know how WSU got FVV. Hahah

I hope the players don't face punishment, I really don't blame them for taking money. I hope the schools are severely punished, so that they can clean up college basketball.

I have to wonder, does Tom Izzo's job at Mich St. survive? Between the OTL stories and Bridges showing up on the list, this could effectively end his tenure there.
He needs to go.

Disagree.

I'm one of the few here that likes Marshall, but given the fact that FVF apparently did some laundry, maybe GM ought to keep his mouth shut.

Illinois has a looooooooong tradition of taking care of their stars. It has been going on forever. Dick Butkus was paid handsomely by boosters back in the day. He would clean a certain section of the arena after illinoy bball and every game someone fan always dropped a paper bag of $$$$ when they left. Dick, being a good Samaritan, would turn the $$$ into the athletic office and after a certain period of time if no one reclaimed the lost $$$, it would go to Dick as he was the finder of the lost property. Anyone care to guess how many times the bag was reclaimed by the person who "lost" it? You get one guess.

Mark A from DePaul. Didn't have a quarter for the bus ride to school. Transitioned nicely to a new ragtop caddy.

Ha. It would kind of surprise me if Mark, Eddie, Skip, and Bernard didn't make a little something at Westinghouse.

It's enjoyable to read through the ShockerNet message board right now. Some fans are trying to justify FVV taking money.

A rule is a rule until they start to pay players.

Note: This appears to be NBA future players only (agents trying to earn their business with a down payment). Let's hope MY is smart enough in this landscape to not collect any "loans"

Disagree.

No free passes from me on coaches that knowingly perpetuate a rape culture by not disciplining players and coaches involved in such sexual misconduct. If football and basketball program members are above the law on these college campuses, then no one’s daughter is safe going to these environments.

I was pro Izzo until the OTL’s piece on ESPN. His lack of response to felonies committed within his program changed my mind on him. He’s just as sleezy as Pitino and the like, IMO.

This is going to be huge!!

But, in the same token, I also think it stems from a systematic failure by the NCAA to provide stipends, etc. to these players who, yes get free rides to expensive colleges, but some are poor to afford other things like food for which the scholarships do not cover.

Interesting to see the fallout.
It’ll get turned into a nothing burger to protect the cash cow programs. Why the hell is Louisville eligible to Dance this year?
If the NCAA was the catalyst for the investigation, I'd agree that nothing will happen.

But a FEDERAL investigation? The NCAA will have to defer blame onto these schools and players so as to deflect culpability. We all know the NCAA turns a blind eye, but if they take no attention, the FBI will turn its focus to the system itself.

Mark me down for "THIS WILL BE HUGE!"

I think some heads may roll, ala Pitino. But the P5 machine will roll on. And possibly, we’ll lose our honest coach to a vacated P5 position as a result.

Question. Why now?? This has gone on for decades. Why now?? Don't just look at the headlines. Those are distractions. Read between the lines.

What's my point? I'm not sure. I just find it interesting that a corrupt federal government (no worries, I appreciate the USA) is investigating a corrupt multi-billion dollar organization. Tell you this. Government gets paid. Problems fade away. It ain't about "justice."

$1000 to FVV plus another $2000 to his dad. Wow.

This is NOTHING. Small potatoes. Happens all the time. Shockers will catch some crap though, heck could even be sanctioned. But no surprise here. It's the GAME, folks.

Can't believe some of these cats leave a paper trail, though. If you're gonna play the game, at least put it into a maze where it would take an algorithm to figure it out.

Leave me out of this

LOL @ HCGM

"it's a sad situation obviously"...

yet I'm going to make a joke about bringing back a player who's been named in this scandal for a national championship game and laugh about it with another coach.

GM is a piece of trash. If you didn't think he was when he was threatening and chest bumping Canadian refs, this has to sway you that way. What an ABSOLUTE piece of garbage.

That's a lot of vitriol towards one human being who is simply a basketball coach. Did he murder a relative of yours or something?? If so, I understand your point.
