The only thing that will change is the way college basketball cheats.

DingDingDING.

I don't know that one can call it cheating anymore. It's been this way for so long...can you actually stop the train??

You don't blame the players for knowingly breaking NCAA rules?

I'm not saying I condone what they did, or condone violating NCAA rules. But, if an 18 or 19 year old kid, who potentially hasn't grown up with lot of money, gets offered large sums of money by a guy who probably told him, "don't worry everyone takes money, you won't get in trouble" and the coaches and administrators of the university don't put a stop to it and more or less encouraged/enabled it, then no I don't blame the athletes, and wouldn't level heavy punishment against them.

If 18 or 19 year old kids are too young to be punished as an adult then they should not be voting.

Not what I'm saying. If the athletes are still playing they will likely lose their amateur status. But, that is where I would end the punishments for players. And, I wouldn't go after athletes who have already moved beyond the collegiate scope. And, no, I don't blame the kids for taking the money. Someone of power offered it, schools/coaches looked the other way, kid wants stuff, kid takes money. People do stupid stuff, especially in college.

Who I would punish, and punish severely, are the schools/coaches/administrators who knew this stuff was happening and chose to look the other way/condone/enable it. You want to stop corruption in college basket address with those who have ability to change it.

I hope the players don't face punishment, I really don't blame them for taking money. I hope the schools are severely punished, so that they can clean up college basketball.

That is one thing that continually gets brushed over. The responsibility of the players and their posse'. And so much pressure from player families. It's like the Mom whose son, recently, chose Florida over the two schools whose attire the Mom was wearing. She got up and walked off, pissed off, making a scene.

The son later said "Oh my Mom knew what she was doing" but he was just covering for her. The kid was in tears when he and Mom later made up. So much pressure.

Equal responsibility, though, between the payor and the payee. Stipends won't fix this 'problem' even though they should get 'em. I'm not saying this is the right thing to do...but start banning coaches for years at a time...eliminate players from competing in college athletics...and start handing down death penalties. Otherwise, it's window dressing.

Look at Carolina. Massive academic fraud. Proof is OVERWHELMING. And they're gonna skate.

I'm not mad about it. It's just the system as it is! And if you want to be a big year in year out program...you play the game as it is laid out. The NCAA heads have created this monster and allowed it to grow even uglier.

Funny though...I still buy my ticket. Guess I'm part of the problem. Popcorn, anyone??

Guarantee you, though, if this 'corruption' was found at a school such as Illinois State...because we're not a major 'player'...they'd tar and feather us, drag us through the streets, ban us for years, maybe eliminate our program, and make an example out of us...or someone like us.

Pitino got fired because he basically performed as most big programs do. He's a fall guy, folks. You always have to find a perpetrator, and then you mob the living sht out of him.

Not standing up for Pitino, he made some big gaffes that didn't help his cause. But it's theater, folks. Hypocrisy at its finest. Compliments of pressure from the NCAA.

From ShockerNet :
Former Wichita State player Fred VanVleet. Documents show he received at least $1,000."
$1000 to FVV plus another $2000 to his dad. Wow.

Becomes clearer all the time that we are playing a completely different sport from the big boys.

Keep in mind : this is one agent, from one agency.

Tip of the iceberg.

Sadly this is more about dirt balls greasing players for future gains. A lot of what I have read doesn't involve the programs themselves or persuading a kid to a certain school. They will make the programs take the fall though.

This is NOTHING. Small potatoes. Happens all the time. Shockers will catch some crap though, heck could even be sanctioned. But no surprise here. It's the GAME, folks.

Can't believe some of these cats leave a paper trail, though. If you're gonna play the game, at least put it into a maze where it would take an algorithm to figure it out.

Friends. Of. The. Program. Or whatever you want to call it.

They know. Maybe not implicitly. But they know.

There are expenses for dinners with guys like Izzo and Nova coaches though. Probably just talking politics and the weather though.

And this is only one spreadsheet of the findings. This agent could have do his expense reports like these months, quarterly, etc

This crap has been going on forever. As long as there's an NCAA it will continue.
Next time you want to blame Dan for losing a recruit....Cough up some cash.

speculating on what the FBI and NCAA consider wins is kind of a fools errand

we're not in the clear for a long time yet

looks like we'll be in good company, though

Just saw that. Wonder if any of these schools or players will face punishment? Now we know how WSU got FVV. Hahah

I hope the players don't face punishment, I really don't blame them for taking money. I hope the schools are severely punished, so that they can clean up college basketball.

I have to wonder, does Tom Izzo's job at Mich St. survive? Between the OTL stories and Bridges showing up on the list, this could effectively end his tenure there.
He needs to go.

This is going to be huge!!

But, in the same token, I also think it stems from a systematic failure by the NCAA to provide stipends, etc. to these players who, yes get free rides to expensive colleges, but some are poor to afford other things like food for which the scholarships do not cover.

Interesting to see the fallout.
It’ll get turned into a nothing burger to protect the cash cow programs. Why the hell is Louisville eligible to Dance this year?

I think you guys should look at coaches like HCDM and Jacobson in even higher regard now for running straight up against paid 3-4.5 star players for the last half decade and still winning.
