I dunno how good Chastain will be.

But I absolutely know that that he was not "let go" by Loyola.

Please enlighten us all. Facts only please.

A personal friend of his told me that he so did not like big city life at all and wanted to move back close to home. What did Porter tell you?
Goodbye city life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umS3XM3xAPk

My only concern is the ACL. If he's all the way back from that in terms of vertical and ability to cut with the same burst, then I feel the same way I did when I wanted to land him out of HS.

Yep! This guys not going to scare any opponents let’s put it that way. Great guy, but I go back to what I said on another thread, he’s not our ticket to the big dance.

I don't think anybody thinks he's THE ticket to the dance next year. What most are saying is that he's going to be good contributor and not a drag on resources.

I'd agree with that. But my point, same as the other threads, we need players who can ELEVATE the program, not "not a drag on resources". Can Chastain ELEVATE the program... no, sorry guys.

Look at some of the guys on our active roster this past year. Certainly he's got the potential to elevate the program.

I really don't care why he's here at this point. He's here. And I can't wait to see The Truth.

And I'm not sure any of the media quotes reasoning his departure would be considered evidence. It may have just been taking the high road, and choosing not to air dirty laundry or burn bridges. Like I have been saying, Matt will reveal The Truth when he hits the floor next year.

I would trade a little bit of this team's height and length, for a little more basketball ability.

I think Copeland will make a huge difference in that area. I really hope so, at least. If not, we are in trouble next year. We might have a decent regular season, but we won't be built to do much of anything other than that. We also need Clarence to make huge steps forward. Not baby steps, but huge steps. This year's team was clearly missing good guard play. Malik, although a matchup problem, is NOT to be your team's primary ball handler. He should be touching the ball on nearly every possession, but he needs to be closer to the rim.

and in the very same article we have this quote:

“After rehabbing another unfortunate injury and evaluating our roster next season Matt has decided to pursue his career in basketball at another institution.”

It’s that second part of the quote that caught my eye....”and after evaluating our roster next season.”

What do you think Moser is implying there?
Covering his Ass!!

Really? Honestly?

I am reading these articles a lot differently than other people must be reading them.
so outside of your analysis, which is an opinion not a given, of an article what facts do you have? 3 different posters have given first hand experiences in personal knowledge of the situation that corroborate Matt's comments in the article . Who do you know on the Loyola side of the equation who has told you differently?

Never mind, I know, Matt's just lying to cover himself.

BTW, I hear there is a child porn ring, operated by Larry and Matt Lyons being run out of the basement at Tobins. Scary Stuff!!! Someone should really take matters into their own hands and do something about it. Sad

Moser’s quote to me says....Chastain is a great kid, but the injury combined with the ballers we’ve brought in here basically means he is going to have a very hard time getting on the court. In lieu of this he has decided to leave the program.

Then..::poof....Chastain enrolls at ISU and is on the Redbirds team.

Then Muller feels compelled to call Moser to explain the situation before it becomes public.

I don’t doubt for a second that there was no foul play by Muller here......but if people actually believe that the No. 1 driving force of Chastain being at ISU was because he was homesick, well then I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree.

Moser basically laid it out there for you as discretely as he could that Chastain was unlikely to play.

We can split hairs on being “let go” or “leaving”. But the bottom line appears to be Loyola’s Head coach’s concern about Chastain not being able to get on the court.

And our fans seem to think he will be on the court for ISU.

So I read that as....ISU fans think they know more about Chastain than Loyola’s coach. Yes that Loyola coach. The one that recruited Krutwig and Williamson and who just kicked the crap out of our team on national TV Loyola coach.

So while you guys are trying to protect our new player who may or may not get on the court at ISU....Moser is out recruiting the next Williamson to replace Custer.

When the people on this board start expecting Williamsons and stop protecting Chastains is when this program turns the corner.
One vague sentence and you have it all figured out!!
Maybe he said that because he knew he was coming here and played him down to their fan base. Most coaches don't make that kind of statement when a player decides to leave. It is usually "we wish him the best in the future".
No I have no clue if that is the situation I'm just making up another scenario by reading his statement! Just as you have no more clue than I

When Matt decided to go to Loyola it was probably a semi-big get for them, right? After all he did turn us down and a time when our team was better. So Moser probably had to explain to his fan base why his prized recruit decided to leave. His injury was pretty serious too, so nobody knew what kind of future he would have...but I'm glad he's here now and hopes he sticks it up Loyola's arse.

Matt Chastain could show up on this board and post as "Matt Chastain" and tell V Boy that he left because he didn't want to be in Chicago and wanted to be closer to home and it wouldn't be enough proof.

C'est la vie.

When players leave, coach and player typically use politically correct verbiage to explain the departure. Muller and player always seem magnanimous when departures occur, and that certainly cannot always be the case.

Serious question. Have you ever met Matt? Talking with him, or anyone around him for 30 seconds and you can tell he is not a big city boy. He surprised a lot of people when committed to Loyola because of the location. There is a certain culture shock from LeRoy to Bloomington, let alone, LeRoy to the heart of Chicago.

Before his injury, he was playing nearly 13 min per game, which at the time led all freshmen on the team. He led the freshmen in scoring and rebounding through those games, and then got hurt. And Moser says his comment about evaluating the roster Matt decided it was best for him to transfer. You don't think he would have been a role player on Loyola's team this year had he not been hurt?

Also, think to next season.. Ingram, Custer, Jackson, all gone. Richardson may very well be too. That line up would have had Chastain at the 3/4 with Williamson at the 1, Towns at the 2, and Krutwig in at the 5. I don't even know who else will step in to the other forward role because their biggest guy after Krutwig who played was a 6'7 freshman who played in 15 games an average of 4.7 min. And Moser thinks 6'6 Chastain couldn't crack that lineup as a RS Sophomore? Come on...

Moser's comment makes me think of any situation when a girl breaks up with you and you say, "yeah, I wasn't really in to her anyway..." or like when the Golden State Warriors said they weren't going to visit the White House and then Trump uninvited them.

People say crazy things to make themselves look good.

I get on here, and this is still going on? Honestly, with all difference to the fine job Quinnie does here, this site is less and less fun everyday with stuff like this. Someone else described it a "glass half full" posters. I am not sure they even have that much in the glass. We have people going out of their way, making stuff up to put down our players, coaches and teams. It's not only wrong, bad information, but just mean spirited. I don't know that I have ever seen anything quite like it. Especially on a partisan fan board.

And some forget what Timmy posted yesterday. There seems to be no regard at all by some posters for the people they are posting about. These are 18 - 22 year old youngsters. Figuring out life. going to school, trying to be good people and good student athletes. They are the face of our program. But as Timmy said, we have adults hiding behind screen names throwing out disparaging stuff about these kids. Even in the face of overwhelming information to the contrary, they go on disparaging.

I guess, in this case, I should take some solice. For everything VBoy is saying, and looking at this posters' track record, Chastain may very well be Valley POY in a couple of years. Anyhow, if you are reading this, please don't take any of this seriously, Matt. Keep working hard. You have represented our university well already, and I know you will continue to. Pay no attention to the adults hiding behind screen names here.

I only care about us getting better and bringing in stronger and stronger players.

We are 0-6 in Valley title games in the past 10 or 11 years. And the past couple times we have made it to the championship game it was not competitive.

As far as I know Chastain isn’t even on scholarship, so Muller really hasn’t even taken on any risk yet.

I hope he turns out to be our best player. It would probably help make the arena more than half full.

I hope his knee Heels.

I hope he can dribble with his left hand.

I hope. I hope. I hope.

I want to get to.

I know. I know. I know.

You take one look at a kid like Townes. I know. One look at a freshman like Krutwig. I know. One look at a kid like Williamson. I know.

Muller is constantly in I hope mode with half the team. And 80% of this board is complicit to that approach.

The amount of occasions where people on this board defend ISU is 100% not in line with what we have achieved.

And I am getting beat up on “facts” by Sargent Hulka and CPacmel, who want to “change the conversation.”

It is pathetic.

I did provide a fact. A big one. And everyone wants that fact to be up for interpretation, speculation, gut feel, Moser REEEEEALLY meant......

.....but we want all the other facts to be taken at face value.

And we want it this way because it makes us feel better.

0-6.

That is a fact. And it is not up for interpretation. It is not subject to.....this guy was hurt. Or that guy was sick. Or we lost some good players. Or is rained that day.

And that is what we get too often from this board.

So who is being the Big Boy Sarge?

Who is being the Redbird Fan who is willing to call things out and not accept this and that and this and that? You think I want to be in this mode? No I do not. I want to celebrate. Over and over. I want us to be dominant. It's not easy as a mid-major. But we have not been dominant for 20 years. And we have been dominated quite a lot during that stretch.

Sure I'm wrong. Everyone is wrong on a given day. I was right about Paris Lee for 3 years and then I was wrong about him when he completely transformed one-third of the way through his senior year and crushed it (after starting for like 90 games in advance of crushing it and us waiting and waiting). It ended up being worth the wait. Never happier to be proven wrong (even after being reminded about it over and over by people who are definitely not "Big Boys". You know who you are.).

Nothing personal against Chastain. But he needs to show us. I hope he does.
