Miss the days when MVC had 3 or 4 teams in the top 25, and wasn't that long ago......all started when Tulsa left. ISU could be competitive in all the sports other than MBB in the CUSA , AAC or MAC. ISU would be at the top 3 in the MAC in other sports programs, and in a couple three seasons, the MBB could be competitive even in the MAC with the right coach. A bit longer in the AAC or CUSA.

When is the last year the MVC had 3 or 4 teams in top 25?

The MVC hasn't had a team ranked in the top 25 of the AP poll since 2016-17 (which, I assumed was wrong due to Loyola being in the final 4, but looks like AP doesn't do an end of season poll). Last time the league had 2 teams ranked at the same time was 14-15 for 13 weeks UNI and Wichita were ranked at the same time (finishing ranked 11 for UNI and 14 for WSU). The last time 3 MVC teams were ranked in the AP top 25 in the same season was 06-07 (Creighton, Wichita, SIU).

I'm sure there are more teams ranked in the coaches poll because that is easier to make the top 25, but those are the AP numbers. I think UNI is 28th this week.

I gotta think that if they win out but still lose the championship game, they'll be in as an at-large. To keep a team with only four losses out of the tourney, no matter the conference...woof. That would be a bad look for both the selection committee and especially the MVC, in my opinion.

The MVC hasn't finished with 3 top-25 teams since 1960.

There were 0 weeks in the 1980's with 3 MVC teams ranked simultaneously. There were 0 years with 4 MVC teams ranked.

There were 8 weeks total in the 1980's with 2 MVC teams ranked simultaneously: 2/8/83 and the first 7 weeks of '81-'82 (of which only 1 coincided with conference play).

1990: 0 weeks
1989: 0 weeks
1988: 6 weeks (1 - Bradley)
1987: 0 weeks
1986: 8 weeks (1 - Bradley)
1985: 8 weeks (1 - Tulsa)
1984: 11 weeks (2 - WSU twice in Nov; Tulsa 9x in Jan-Mar)
1983: 10 weeks (3 - Tulsa twice in Dec; ISU 3x 1/25-2/8; WSU 5x 2/8-3/8)
1982: 21 weeks (2 - Tulsa 14x; WSU 7x)
1981: 4 weeks (1 - WSU)
1980: 0 weeks

Did it happen in the “70’s”?

Wouldn’t want to be UNI in this scenario with only 1 quality win on the resume. Big conference teams are going to have more, granted more opportunities but that doesn’t seem to matter.

This author thinks if they lose to Loyola in the tournament MAYBE they could get an at-large, but its a long shot. A loss to anyone else puts them in the NIT. Life is hard in the Valley.

NORTHERN IOWA (NET: 35, NBC: 11): Their strong NET and wins at Colorado (17) and over South Carolina (66) on a neutral keep the Panthers in the conversation, but losses at Southern Illinois (148) and Illinois State (202) are killers. UNI cannot lose another game unless it is against Loyola-Chicago (102) in the MVC tournament if they really want a chance at an at-large.

Some obscure dude that isn’t even one of the 195 registered bracketologists on bracketmatrix is meaningless. Everyone credible has UNI in with a loss in the MVC tournament.

I don't agree with him on this but Rob Dauster is hardly obscure.

Rob Dauster - never heard of him. Plus, he is on an NBC website - anything from NBC has no credibility on any level.

Joey Buckets, or whatever the hell he calls himself, shows no room for 2 valley teams. Someone from the valley will be dining alone.

You realize there are no requirements for a bracket to be put into bracket matrix right? Literally I could put my bracket up there or you could put yours. Considering Dauster is employed by NBC makes him way more credible than the majority of the brackets on the site.

You should put yours up there. I’m sure they would enjoy seeing 7 mvc teams in the field!!!

Point being was if it was a guy whose bracketology anyone paid attention, bracketmatrix would post it on their website like they have any other bracketologist. (Yes, bloggers can join in provided they demonstrate knowing all the selection/seeding rules - it’s not just anyone gets posted).

Lunardi this morning - after UNI’s loss to Loyola - has UNI ahead of TEN at-large teams.
