Here's his bio. I wouldn't say that a kid that averaged 2 points per game at Virginia would dominate in the Valley however he's a big body that played quality minutes and I do believe a kid like this could come in and be a solid contributor. I admire the way Virginia plays and having 5 years of experience in that system would be a cultural fit from what I sense coach Pedon is attempting to build. I'm sure he has a great work ethic and would help to set the tone and be a mentor to the younger kids on the team.

Seems like the type of guy Pedon may be looking for to build the right culture on and off the floor.

Like I said I believe he could be a dominant big in the MVC. I’ve said before as well that scoring numbers don’t tell the whole story. I think he would fit well against the bigs in the conference. There weren’t too many athletic bigs that I saw this past season. He’s not athletic as well but he won’t be pushed around on the blocks either. He probably will be the strongest low post player by far. I really hope he decide to come here.

If he had big offensive numbers we woild have no shot! If he can guard, rebound, and occupy defenders in the paint .. then that should improve our chances for others to score in the paint.

A 7-footer for only one year sounds like a great get for a program that is one piece away from putting it altogether. We’re not that program, so why waste a scholly on a one and done dude?

You admire losing in the first round despite being a huge favorite year after year?

Sometimes you bring in a guy who will make you better. He on top of a couple other transfers could make us real competitive. He also knows he’s going to get a lot of minutes and show off what he can do for overseas scouts. No guarantee he comes but it could be good for both sides.

What did they do in 2019?
Sure they had a great season and won the championship, but they strike me as constant underachievers.
I’d rather model a program like Michigan State.

Definitely appreciate the perspectives and insights on him. I

I didn't say I admired their results in the NCAA tournament. Not sure how you could make that up by my comment about admiring the way they play. I'm referring to style of play being fundamentally sound team basketball and not relying or focusing on individual athletes. Over the last 10 years, their record is 265 - 72 (.786 winning percentage). There are a handful of other programs that I admire in this way.

My favorite overall program that I admire is Gonzaga for many reason including their style of play, more wins since 2000 than any other program, more NCAA tournament wins in the last 10 years than any other program including 8 consecutive Sweet 16s. Of course I admire the success of some other programs including Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Michigan (I wouldn't rank Michigan State that high especially in recent years personally) but these programs have traditionally recruited much higher rated talent than other programs. So to sum up what I already said before, I admire the style of play that Virginia has and my sense is that kids that come from programs like this will be great team players that are fundamentally sound, good character kids that will fit into the type of program that coach Pedon is attempting to build. I think Malachi is a great example of this and would welcome anyone like him to our program.

There is no way I’d say they as a program are underachievers. No program can win it year after year after year. You can’t have a winning percentage that high over the last decade with a chip and call them that. That’s a bad take. To have a decade of Tournament appearances woes certainly qualify for that spot though. They’re a winning program

I definitely hope Francisco chooses ISU. To have a big of that size would help out tremendously. Just 2 years ago when Francisco started 16 games and played 17 minutes per game, he average 4.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. So you put that production over to the MVC who will be without Mast, Krikke and the big from Belmont so what bigs that are good are left? Then with Francisco it should help KLew to have a guy that big who doesn't shy away from contact and should likewise help our guards with driving lanes.

Thanks for sharing the stats from 2 years ago. At least a little more encouraging.

Wouldn’t be my first choice, but wouldn’t be my last either. Would like to see if there are other guys looking to level up (juco, lower mid major) who have contributed on the floor a bit more more recently and with more years. I’ll admit too I don’t know his passing/assists but that may be almost as important as his rebounding/scoring.

Also I’m obviously not the one building the team either.

Pretty sure there isn’t a poster on here who wouldn’t be happy if our team lost in the first round of the dance every year . . .
