Pretty sure there isn’t a poster on here who wouldn’t be happy if our team lost in the first round of the dance every year . . .
That’s a given BF. We’d fuss after a couple of years losing but that would make the Portal a lot rosier for these kids who overlook us now.
I luv this time of year and TOTALLY Appreciate the hours/Weeks of focus this Staff puts in to lure talent back to r program. And if we get a shot at Francisco, Mal obviously deserves a strong Thank U for casting the bait on what Pedon and ISU offer. That is truly commendable.
R 3 Frosh look to b exiting adds along with the logical approach of adding insurance pieces as each transition to D1.
Last years D was so poor and that still worries me - I’d take a Yaklich clone in a heartbeat moving forward.
We r DUE for a break in getting a resource/Asset or 2 to Add Value in near term as Pedon ain’t gonna b outworked on this front.
Go Birds!

For us getting guys out of the portal...we need some connection to the player via coaches and players. Otherwise unless u have some big pot of NIL $ it is a waste of time.

Literally not true. >1k players in the portal. A vast majority aren’t getting significant NIL money.

Agreed - NIL is overblown for kids coming to Birds.
It needs to be compared to other MVC teams. As long as we are on par or better than our conference rivals then I think we are fine. But if you think we are going to get a 3 star or 4 star player with little to no NIL, that just isn't likely to happen.

Ty Pence is a 3 star

The 3 early signees are instant impact players, I don’t know if any of them can start, maybe Pence. And Walker will have to improve his fitness to log more and more minutes, but he’s big, strong and has great feet/hands and bball IQ. He’ll never play above the rim, but I believe Walker is a diamond in the rough.
If we add 1 more legit player from the portal, hopefully PF or Center, I think there is realistic hope for marked improvement.

You should go check out Walker's recruiting thread and see how much weight he's lost.

Definitely appreciate the perspectives and insights on him. I

I didn't say I admired their results in the NCAA tournament. Not sure how you could make that up by my comment about admiring the way they play. I'm referring to style of play being fundamentally sound team basketball and not relying or focusing on individual athletes. Over the last 10 years, their record is 265 - 72 (.786 winning percentage). There are a handful of other programs that I admire in this way.

My favorite overall program that I admire is Gonzaga for many reason including their style of play, more wins since 2000 than any other program, more NCAA tournament wins in the last 10 years than any other program including 8 consecutive Sweet 16s. Of course I admire the success of some other programs including Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Michigan (I wouldn't rank Michigan State that high especially in recent years personally) but these programs have traditionally recruited much higher rated talent than other programs. So to sum up what I already said before, I admire the style of play that Virginia has and my sense is that kids that come from programs like this will be great team players that are fundamentally sound, good character kids that will fit into the type of program that coach Pedon is attempting to build. I think Malachi is a great example of this and would welcome anyone like him to our program.
Gonzaga looks to be on the downward trend with that second unit on the floor the other night.

Thus attitude is probably why we are where we are! You don’t succeed by not trying!

Ty Pence had a connection to ISU prior to us recruiting him. My point with the portal is how do you even sell yourself to a player that has more than a dozen intetested contacts. Unless u recruited them in high school or have a current or former player on your squad how do you have a chance? Everyone is promising playing time. What else can u offer...grad school right?

Oh my! He already looks like a different person!
Look at his hands, they’re huge. He has great mid range touch and is a gifted passer for a big.
I’m even more excited for next season…

The Tots and cheese ball money shouldn’t be overlooked
