So we now have a front court of Lewis, Kotov, Schmit, and Sissoko, with Walker coming in. Even if Walker contributes right away, we’re not very solid. Need at least 1 true big and a stretch-4, but would prefer 2 true bigs. Need 1 of them, at least, to be experienced (grad transfer would be awesome).

Then we need an experienced true PG (grad transfer preferred) to help/mentor Kinziger.

I like that. Still think we need a reliable scorer too in some way shape or form added.

I liked how Furman played, and I think roughly how Pedon wants to play. Their big down low was 6’8 so a bit undersized but a heck of a passer and scorer. Conference player of the year, so it ran through him.

I don't disagree with any of this. Only want to add my ongoing, totally glass-half-full belief that guys can get better, and especially Schmitt and Sissoko (maybe Kotov too) could, maybe, just might, possibly become "solid" contributors with a summer/off-season with Pedon, with some extra time in the weight room, with Pedon now having a better perspective on how they could be used better or how to unlock their potential, how to tweek the system to enhance their productivity. Etc.

Would be easier to bring in a portal or JC guy who is turn-key, for sure.

For you die-hards, the national junior college championship is being broadcast on ESPNU at 1 (now). John A. Logan JC from downstate Carterville is playing vs. Northwestern Florida. Lots of Illinois kids on the Logan roster, including some guys who look like they could muscle up for our Birds. I don't know any of them, maybe some of you do. Including 6-10 230 lb kid from Springfield, 7 footer from Cobden, couple 6'6-6'7 kids from the burbs. Plus some point guard guys.

John A's head coach played at SIU, Tyler Smithpeters. He was an assistant under his brother who is now an assistant at Missouri. Tyler is a first year head coach and in the title game.

Centralia Orphans, Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, Freeport Pretzels and when I lived in Illinois, 77-84, the Pekin Chinks.
There is a high school here in Iowa, near the Minnesota border that has the nickname of the Midgets. I surprised they haven't been forced to change it.

I believe I heard that one of the players from John A was headed to Mizzou. I can't remember which one .

I'll have to look up where New Berlin is. I forgot about Cornjerkers.
Curt Lewis I think this is the kid that is going to Mizzzou.
It looks like it's just west of Springfield. There is a Berlin Illinois a few miles a way. Must be a suburb of New Berlin.

Fred Willman wrote a book called Why Mascots Have Tales - The Illinois High School Mascot Manual that tells the stories of how these schools were given their nicknames.

One would think there is at least 1 guy on that roster that could have an impact at ISU.

I would have done anything to play for and be an Appleknocker. The apple bobbing at the pep rallies, I hear, was the best. Only a few casualties in all the years!

Berlin is a little hiccup of a few hundred people. South of Berlin is New Berlin - no current correlation - which is about 10 miles west of Springfield. The NB Pretzels were the top defensive team in the area. Opponents averaged 34ppg.

I want the players we add to value the basketball. I really liked Liam but he was a turnover machine. I think Chase will be a heck of a passer in the post. I would like to see a transfer or juco come in that can do that as well. I think giving JK the keys from day one is the smart move. Burford got more comfortable within the offense as the season went on he can be backup the pg spot. I would like to see another shooter to come in to provide some depth behind Mal at the 2. It will be interesting to watch this off-season plays out.

We’re in the mix for a 5th year 7 footer who I believe would be dominant in the Valley
