I have no knowledge of anything relating to these kids which allows me to feel ok speculating. My sense is that he's going to stay and I could see him having the same type of Sophomore to Junior breakout year that Antonio Reeves had this last year. He seems like a very committed kid and I have no doubt about his willingness to put in the work.

Reeves was a completely different player without DJ Horne than he was with him. Maybe we will see the same change in Howard without Antonio. Addition by subtraction. I look for a much improved Fleming, Lewis, McChesney, Freeman, Strong, and Washington. With a healthy Chatman, and a few added pieces, I am confident that the new coaching staff will have the Redbirds avoiding Thursday in St Louis next March.

Howie is the real deal. I hope he comes back and love his competitiveness and continuing improvement. Borrowing from a past hit he seems to want to continue to do the walk of life with the Redbirds. If Tone and the rest came back along with a couple of good transfers I really believe they could compete for the MVC top position next year.

He (Howie) got the action, he got the motion
Oh yeah, the boy can play
Dedication, devotion
Turning all the night time into the day

Howie wants to be the catalyst and leader for turning this program into brighter days. Love the passion and hope he’s back next year.

To avoid that next year we would have to be top 4. Other programs have done it

I believe if all of these players return we are top four and avoiding Thursday.
As four Antonio, he has made it clear that he is not committed to being a Redbird, so move on. Coach Pedon has already stated that he is not in the business of selling Illinois State to the current players. You either want Illinois State on the front of your jersey, or you don’t.

I must of misssd Pedon saying that he is not in the business of selling ISU to current players. Regardless, he better be in the buisness of selling himself to current players and prospective recruits.

Pretty obvious that he is.

I wonder if The Ohio State University was recruiting Howard at one time. Didn’t he have a HS injury that took him out of attention for high majors?

Perhaps less Redbirds will be hitting the portal than we originally imagined? I would think Pedon wants a fair amount of his own recruits

This is a quote from the Jim Benson Pantagraph article.

“I've expressed to them I'm not going to sell them on buying something that they don't want to be part of," he said. "The first key for me is always relationships. If I can communicate with them in truth and honesty and understand where they're at in their journey and what they're looking for, at end of the day we want players who want to be here and take pride in being here and take pride in wearing the name on front of their jerseys.”

I am wondering if less Redbirds are hitting the portal as well. The roster has been updated on the ISU website for the 2022-2023 season with Strong as a 5th yr senior and 7 seniors total. Basically ISU as of right now has the 2 scholarships open that are both going to the Simpkins twins as of right now.

You wouldn’t think Kotov or Ndiaye would be back, right?

I'm always surprised when UNI has a guy transfer out. Coach Jake has done a great job of retaining players in his career where other teams in the league consistently have to fill 3+ spots every offseason due to transfer

I was curious why Kotov redshirted this year. Any insight...not speculation? Development? Injury? Personal reasons? Not wanting specifics...just wondering if he was capable but had other reasons. Just seemed odd to me.

From the UNI fans on the MVC board it had to do with Noah's dad. Apparently he is a real dbag. He sent a tweet out to a P5 coach and did Noah was going to be hitting the portal in a few days. He also got the name of his uni wrong calling it North Iowa.

Guessing we may see more this week/next week now that Pedon is full time with us. I'm sure he's having conversations with all the current players this week on how he sees them fitting into his vision for the team

Agree that we'll learn more in the coming weeks.

Over the last three weeks, Pedon said he has been splitting time between OSU and ISU. I'd be curious what he was doing in the ISU space. Watching film on current players to evaluate how the fit in? Making recruiting calls? Spending time on Zoom with current players to build relationships? Conducting assistant coach interviews? All of the above?

That would make for a really good article for someone to write. It's a really interesting situation, having to finish out with one team while trying to establish with a new one. There you go Pantagraph, Vidette, or WGLT folks that read this board. Free idea. You can even use my questions. :ROFLMAO:
