And how would Dan telling the full truth in this scenario benefit him or the program?? Come on now. I don’t have any issue celebrating the situation, but let’s not be naive. He was asked or encouraged to give up his scholarship and he agreed. I am glad Matt decided to stay, he has represented ISU basketball to the highest standard from Day 1. I respect his decision.

Thanks Matt. Luv Ya Baby!!! Glad you're here
100%.
Doesn't make sense to rag on a kid for busting his ass all the time and being a good student athlete. I am glad someone like Matt will be a fellow alum. He does his best and i'm certain he has the respect of his teammates and coaches.

Possibly. That’s how things happen in the real world. But most of our fans live in fantasy land, and believe all the coach speak and media spin put before them.ILSTUGRAD11 said:Retire 12 said:2 things here.
1st, and most important... Matt Hein you're awesome. Thank you for everything you've done, and continue to do for this University. What an awesome gesture.
2nd, and needs to be said... I'm gong to again go back to all of the people saying Muller runs people off and overrecruits. They simply don't know the entire story, and there's more than meets the eye in situations.
What an incredibly deep roster we have right now.
Pure speculation, but the likely scenario to me is that Muller told him he wouldn't have a scholarship next year once Fisher committed and he was welcome to walk on or transfer to another school and Hein, knowing that he would likely not be able to transfer to another D1 school, opted to walk on. The spin they put on it makes it sound like Dan got the whole team in a room and said guys, we need someone to step up and give up their scholarship so we can get Ndiaye, any takers? I doubt that was how it actually went down though. Still a nice gesture of Hein to give up his scholarship and not decide to transfer. Nice to have all this depth!

Also, has Chastain news been announced somewhere I didn't see? Officially, he's a scholarship player, no?
When was Chastain ever on scholarship?
Never

The 3-1 scholarship/pay you own way arrangement was a helluva deal for a handcuff with very little basketball talent. Not to mention, he was handcuffed to a huge bust. Hein parlayed his situation into an incredible windfall. ISU spent 6 scholarship years to basically get very little in terms of statistical production. Hein and Ndaiye got 6 free years at ISU. This is the least he can do to repay what was a poor ROI for ISU.

This is an absurd comment. That's on CDM for taking that risk, not Hein. After his first year I'll admit I fully felt that he had zero business setting foot on a D1 basketball court. While he still struggled at times this past year he was easily the most improved player on the team and gave it all he had. No secret that he's not as talented as everyone else on the roster, but by all accounts he's a great teammate and busted his butt to give what he could. Now he gives up his scholarship (sure you can argue if it was given willingly or taken) to add a talented piece to this team AND chooses to stay with the program. The kid has given everything he can to help the team and I commend that and will root like heck for him. To say "that's the least he can do"? Give me a break.
Bottom line whether a guy has the talent to compete at this level and is given a scholarship is on the coaching staff, not the player. None of us here would have given up free tuition and a spot on the team had it been offered.
