So the guy's 66, making 3.8 per and living in Ann Arbor. His deal there takes him to 22-23. They love him there. He's already had double bypass surgery. So he chucks that to move to Cleveland and take over that shit show with about a 14% (Zion) chance of getting to average in the 5 years of his contract. I don't get people.

I’m with ya, but it sounds like he’s extremely frustrated with the state of college basketball.

He was in the NCAA final just a year ago. He doesn’t know anything about frustration.

The other thing is he’s coached at every single level except the NBA. He could have realized this might be his only shot to coach at that level. There isn’t that much more to accomplish in college basketball for him.

He could win a national championship.

In jest...he has won a "national" championship. He could still win an NCAA championship, but he could argue his NIT title (06-07) hit that. Yes, an NCAA title is big, but he still has a Hall of Fame resume considering there aren't many coaches who have won titles. There are only 9 active coaches who have won titles.

That being said, this is the type of job to secure his family even more in the future. It also could save him a lot of time away from his family.

I'm happy for the guy because it appears he's doing it on his terms.

This is a very good job but i don't consider it elite.

I think Yaklich is a strong candidate. I don't think lack of HC experience is a good reason not to hire someone.

Izzo was never a HC either.

Neither was Steve Fisher.

Neither was Roy Williams

there are many other examples.

I think a lot of the tarnish is off the 3G apple. I doubt he's even remotely considered.
So you believe Yak is a stronger candidate than 3G? I will say that some of 3G antics were real bad this year and continues to chip away at his image.

I would rather hire Yak than 3G if I were Michigan. 3G would not like being 2nd fiddle to football no matter how many games he won. compared to football basketball isn't shit at Michigan and never will be.

Yak doesn't strike me as having that kind of "my shit don't stink" ego that 3G has. Plus.........why would any program want 3G's horrendous wife around their program? She not only acts like a fool but has the physical appearance of 40 miles of bad road.
. Football definitely rules the roost in Ann Arbor but to think basketball isn’t shit at Michigan is a stretch. That hoop program is big time by ncaa division 1 basketball standards. Their hoop facilities,
Including their player development center, are state of the art and ooze quality

as a stand alone.....Michigan basketball is outstanding in all aspects as you mention. I agree. a great job for sure. no question.

which is why i said when compared to Michigan football it isn't shit. and it's not.

when Michigan basketball starts to outbid NBA teams by 2X for its head coach as the football team did to land Harbaugh then i will take back what i said about Michigan basketball as compared to Michigan football.

Michigan basketball could win 3 straight NCAA titles and it wouldn't mean a thing compared to one title from Michigan football. see Florida Gators.

Marshall would be beside himself with jealousy and anger if he wasn't the top dog at his university.

If it would lead to a fist fight between Marshall and Harbaugh on the 50 yard line then I'd say sign me up to witness those fireworks. You'd just have to watch out for outside interference from Marshall's wife. She seems to be cut from the Scary Sherry cloth.

As much as we mock Marshall. I wonder what his price tag is to leave Wichita?

14 NCAA Tournaments in 21 years, a Final 4, NIT Championship, 500 wins. He is one of the best coaches in college basketball and would kill to have someone like that as our coach.

I don't see Michigan being a big time enough job for him to leave, but Michigan does have huge amounts of money.

A Harbaugh vs Marshall fight would last about 6 seconds.

As a rookie Jim Harbaugh punched HOF Dan Hampton in the face during a practice when he thought Hampton was late hitting him. Hampton stuck up for him hard core the rest of his career.

Harbaugh is a weird dude but he's tougher than 10 day old brisket.

Yaklich interviewing with Texas to be on Shaka's staff.

Doesn't seem Yak wants to wait around to see if the new coach wants to retain him. If he goes to Texas, I could see us getting a game with them because of the Yak connection, plus Shaka did home and homes with Muller at VCU. I'd bet Shaka would be much more open than Beilein.

Why is Michigan’s Coach In Waiting interviewing for an assistant job at Texas? 🤔

Yak is a smart man not blindly waiting on the desires of the new coach. Michigan will pay big money and will want a big time coach. That big time coach will want to run his program with “his” staff. That coaching industry is all about hiring your buddies and guys you know well especially as coaches are moving up the ladder Any assistant coach would have to feel they are vulnerable in Yak’s situation regardless of how good they may be as coach. But who knows maybe Michigan and their new coach will want Yak and bump his pay to keep him from going elsewhere? Yaks putting the ball in play in his court vs waiting around to see if he is in the game.

Luke listed as a serious contender for the job.

My money would be on the providence coach but wouldn't rule out howard or Yaklich. Rooting for Yaklich.

Yak was at a small town high school in Illinois when Howard was the Pied Piper that led the charge with the Fab 5. Amazing that 27 years later they are competing for the same job at Michigan.

incredible
