Yep and every decent coach in any sport should have little things to look for that separate kids and don't show up on film. For me with football I would look at the back of there legs when they ran out on the field. I knew in an instant if they were committed to the squat rack. Squatting sucks. If they were committed to that I new they were tough and could probably play. I'm sure basketball coaches have to be the same way.

For realz though, Timmy. Help me out. Back of the legs. In particular...what? Squats are an overall leg and butt builder but quads and glutes are target. Dead lifts hammer the hammies. Describe what catches your eye. I'm sweating bullets because now if I meet you I'll have to walk backwards...yet I'm only asking for a friend.

Really though. Serious question.

Something happened after the Ole Miss game or during the Cleveland St game.

Stats first 11 games (through Ole Miss)
29 min per game
47 -101 fg 46.%
35-72 3pt fg 48.6%
13.3 points per game

Starting Cleveland St there was a dramatic decline in all offensive categories. Last 10 games played (7 prior to being hurt)
17 min per game
11 - 45 fg 24.4%
6 - 30 3 pt fg 20.0%
3.6 points per game

His offensive rating per 100 had to be off the charts the first 11 games because it was 112.3 for the year.

He appeared to lose all confidence. I am not saying he was a lock down defender but I thought his defense got worse the same time his offense disappeared. Ultimate Jekyll and Hyde season.

He should find a good home especially if a coach believes the upside from the first 11 games.

If he tears it up wherever he lands, that’s a pretty damning reflection of our program and our ability to develop kids.

Or hold them back!

You are correct. Squats create explosion. But quads and hip flexers are hard to see in a uniform. So I look at the back of legs cause if a kids dead lifting, power cleaning and doing good mornings he's sure as shit squatting.

Zeke Upshaw . . . suppose we did a poor job of developing him. A player "blowing up" is as much about fit as it is about development. Zeke didn't fit with Muller. Seems Josh didn't either. If he tears it up elsewhere, good for him, but he wasn't going to tear it up here.

Serious question, does anybody tear it up here anymore?

No one would care about a player tearing it up elsewhere when the team at hand wins the valley and has the coach of the year. But if the team is underachieving and there are chemistry issues, then you start questioning the recruitment strategy. I feel like there has been more questioning of the ones that blew up elsewhere in the Muller tenure than just enjoying the team at hand.

This board is crazy. During the season his shot was broke and he couldn’t play any defense. Now that he is transferring we are going to regret it.

Jefferson was a great shooter but didn’t any give effort half the time he was on the court. Yes, it would be great to have that scoring, but he gave up just as many points as he scored. Depending on who muller brings in on his scholarship, I think we will be fine.

Saw video of my kid’s team doing these weighted jumping squats.

Seems like asking for back injury to me. Every person that I worked with that did CrossFit, eventually had significant injury, due to the extreme nature of the workout.

Back, knees, hips, shoulders, neck . . . off center just a little bit could be very destructive.

Absolutely. Freaking. Ridiculous.
You can get just as much benefit from a simple one-legged pistol squat in a fatigued state as these ridiculous jumping free bar squats.
Virtual guarantee of an injury to somebody.
STUPID and irresponsible as all get out.. Keep that video rolling, peeps, for that is your proof for the lawsuit after your kid schedules his timeslot for surgery. Jumping. Weighted. Squats. With a Free bar. JUMPING. GREAT idea.)

(I respect the Crossfit 'attitude,' btw...and admire the local crossfitters. But this is stooooopid.)

At least Jefferson is keeping quiet about his complaints of Muller. Unlike Mark Smith. Guys like Muller and Underwood would be better off to stop being psycho.

Nice job finding a tweet about Illinois and then using it to disparage coach Muller. It is always refreshing when young adults can keep complaints to themselves and not hear a rumor and spread it around like adults do.

I hear the Beatles are getting back together, and TPguy will take George Harrison's spot.

Absolute coaching malpractice. For me it was box squats and parallel squats. 30 years of BFS.

Have you been to a Muller practice? I have. He’s as crazy as Underwood.

No. Underwood is old school hard core barking all the time, and he's not shy about it (the language too) and there were no secrets about it when he was hired and there are no secrets about it today. Muller is hardly Underwood. I respect Underwood, btw. But to call Muller psycho and crazy is absolutely ASININE, and yes I've seen him in practice action.

I am curious though, Rico. Perhaps you were a scholarship athlete, I don't know. But did you ever throw on a jock and play competitive sports?

We're reaching a time where athletic ass-chewings will be against NCAA law.

Rico, I believe I've seen you praise Kevin Stallings - but I'm gonna tell you something. Stallings played mind games with his players like you can't believe and he played the psycho part...but he's really not psycho. Just a master at developing mentally tough players. But he was truly hated at times. I'd even say most of the time. Until championships were won, or players graduated and with time got a whole lot of perspective.

Do we even start on Bob Donewald?? That f@*!er was MEAN in his coaching. I'll give him credit for this though. He'd let his players drop kick a basketball through Horton in order to release steam, in the middle of practice during a break in the action.

I don't know as athletes that we ever truly understand our coaches until we get some time away from them. Not a week goes by in my life that I don't think about a few of my coaches. And one of them was the hardest screw that ever walked a turn at Shawshank State Prison.

Oh wait, that's a movie.
