Kid showed a lot of flashes and potential to be an elite scorer.
I absolutely agree. But he doesn't want to be here.

The pass under Mr. Fall was fantastic. I have a really bad feeling we are going to miss him on next year's team.

I miss the player he was at the beginning the year. I also threw up a bit watching that and looking at some of the scores. After watching Texas Tech and Virginia I am all about us being a defensive team first. Those teams got after it and it lead to offense.

Only if you ignore the scores in the highlights would you assume ISU was a NCAA team. Also, the speed of the highlights are sped up for sure.Redbrd1 said:Redbird Alum 2004 said:gobirds85 said:The pass under Mr. Fall was fantastic. Geez if you watch our highlights you'd think we were an NCAA team. This is why i don't get hyped on recruits anymore... anybody can make anybody... look good. Even a crappy underachieving redbird team.

Let Dean Smith coach him!

Coaches sometimes get lax and don't see kids play enough IN PERSON in a truly competitive stakes-on-the-line environment. In particular, head coaches. Head coaches know what they are looking for and what they want, and while recruiting lies heavily with an assistant who is the chief recruiter and viewer of the kid...if the head coaches don't see a kid, in person, enough...you end up with kids in your program that don't fit. They might be really good players.
But every coach basically has a system and even good players aren't necessarily universal to systems. Especially from a mental standpoint.
One thing that practically shocked me sitting courtside was the difference between the TV/tape player vs the live in person player. Big big difference, especially the athleticism and maybe more so - the intagibles. That's why these "highlight" promos make me giggle and you sure as hek better throw a lot of salt on those tapes.

They have to fit the system, they have to gel with each other and the coaches, then a nice dose of luck and or star alignment usually comes into play. There is way more behind making a good/great team than getting the most ***s as foretold by ranking sites.

Yep and every decent coach in any sport should have little things to look for that separate kids and don't show up on film. For me with football I would look at the back of there legs when they ran out on the field. I knew in an instant if they were committed to the squat rack. Squatting sucks. If they were committed to that I new they were tough and could probably play. I'm sure basketball coaches have to be the same way.

Stats first 11 games (through Ole Miss)
29 min per game
47 -101 fg 46.%
35-72 3pt fg 48.6%
13.3 points per game
Starting Cleveland St there was a dramatic decline in all offensive categories. Last 10 games played (7 prior to being hurt)
17 min per game
11 - 45 fg 24.4%
6 - 30 3 pt fg 20.0%
3.6 points per game
His offensive rating per 100 had to be off the charts the first 11 games because it was 112.3 for the year.
He appeared to lose all confidence. I am not saying he was a lock down defender but I thought his defense got worse the same time his offense disappeared. Ultimate Jekyll and Hyde season.
He should find a good home especially if a coach believes the upside from the first 11 games.

I do the same thing here at the beaches in SoCal, except replace men with women and legs with asses.
