Nothing devastating about losing a guy with these stats. Step away from the ledge.

He was someone who I liked, and thought he could really help next season.

Seemed liked a good kid, I was hoping for a lot more from him when I first laid eyes upon him but he’s seems a step slow for this level. Best of luck Rey, you played hard and represented the university well and that’s what’s important.

Watching him in Cayman Island his Freshman year I thought he showed a lot of potential.

If Rey gets a coach who can help him, he will be impressive.

Since Rey doesn’t shoot 3 pointers, he is a bad fit for us.

This situation reminds me of Zeke Upshaw a bit, not because they are the same type player, but because Dan can’t see how to make Rey better.

This is why I hate the program right now. Donewald would have made Rey a stud. We re-load with a thin 6’10 guy who has stats that don’t look like much. Hope I am wrong on that.

Devastating?? Just a little over dramatic - sort of like Uecker's call of "Just a little outside." I was hopeful Rey was going to develop into a good inside player. He showed decent promise late last year and in the first few games this year - but, it did not work out. Was a little soft on the inside and lost on defense. He had ample chances, but it not work out. Good luck.

Lol I laugh at ppl on here. You know who they are as they say "we are bad", or "fire Muller" and so forth then they come on here o "here we go, transfer U" or say anything else. Lol you cant get upset when someone transfers after you were saying he was bad during the season.
Others will transfer or leave the program bc isu and Benson hasn't said anything or made an announcement yet. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who might leave as we are Redbird fans and can figure who they are, so the I'm hearing group isn't hearing anything bc the kids haven't been on campus for 2.5 weeks or so.

With Rey I am sorry to see Rey leave but it's best for both parties. Rey seemed a step slow and really didn't play well with Fisher or any other big. Sad see Rey go again bc it's best for both parties. Wish Rey would've realized how big and athletic he was while he was a Redbird.

Unfortunately, I think that many on this board are unrealistic about the ability of ISU or any other mid-major to recruit a high quality big. Realistically, anybody that a mid major gets with size is going to be a project. Dyer was a project, Dinma was a project, Wilkins #2 was project, Threloff was a project, Lynch was a project, David N’Daiye was a project. Some of them seem to be able to contribute better in other programs after a lot of the same things being said about them here-too slow, not a big enough offensive threat. No question that Rey was a project. I hope he gets the opportunity in his next stop, I think he has tools to be a real contributor.

Sounds like the Birds will have a new big that may play more facing the basket, that seems to be more “in the lane” for Current coaching staff. Let’s hope he can play post defense in the MVC.

Reggie Lynch was not a project.
Gotta disagree here. Defensively he was ready, but was essentially a dunk or layup only his freshmen year and while he grew as a player, was still limited offensively his sophomore year without the ability to shoot free throws. Not to mention, never learning how to stop fouling either year.

He is the type of big we need to go after to strike gold on a star but by no means was a star when he got here.

Goes without saying, this is as a player only and not based on his shitty personality which would make him un recruit able.

Lol kevin !

Dude I figured you were in some airport bathroom all quarantined up, with all the traveling you do and the many homes you are so lucky to have & responsible for. Sorry LAX screwed up your showing at Arch Madness.

Cheeseballs on me @ Pub II, Trey. The pepperjack balls are simply undeniable.

Logically with Rey's departure, we need a replacement or 2 as we have Zero in the Big/Back to the Basket kind
of guy.

Those who are saying we needed to trim roster because we're +1.......that's Donnelley, right? Those schollies come and go. Muller is
in the Win NOW Mode or else except for the 4 year protection plan he's on. He's gotta bring in the coke machine with some skill on the block.

My wish - simply bring in 2 huge guys who are rim protectors. That's all.

So it's on Rey. No blame for lack of development from coaching staff ?

Okay, I know comparisons like this are BS, I'm not suggesting Rey could be like this kid, but I'm gonna make it anyway, because not all kids come ready to contribute on Day 1 or Day 750. But eventually, with the right coaching and opportunity and so forth, they can contribute. So, here's the first two years' stats for a particular player. Illinois HS kid who played in the Big 10, graduated 5 years ago:

freshman year: 7 minutes per game/ 41% FG PCT/ 50% FT PCT/1.4 REB per game/13 blocks/1.8 points per game
soph. year: 10 minutes per game/ 44% FG PCT/ 77% FT PCT/ 1.8 REB per game/17 blocks/ 4.2 points per game.

Compare those stats with Rey's. You'll see on some metrics Rey is actually slightly better than . . . . .

2015 National Player of the Year Frank Kaminsky.
