Just interested. What should the OC have called that he didn't. He shortened the game.
Seems like he did what he needed to do to keep us in it. Tough to play the best team in the country without a passing game. But he gave us a chance.
What do you know Timmy???

Had to be conservative on offense. The kid has a rocket arm but very little touch or accuracy. Maybe you can pick out an individual call but in general Robinson was our only chance. James Robinson was a beast throughout the playoffs including today. But the best team in the nation could stack the box without fear of passing and at least contain him to a degree.

We went into a hostile environment against the best team in the nation and played our asses off. The first time since 2002 that the bison hadn’t scored a touchdown at home. In life you don’t always win but when you give it everything you have you walk into the sunset heads held high. This team will be a force to be reckoned with next year. Proud of Redbird football today

Nice game overall.. we battled. But needed to throw the ball some earlier in game to get Jefferson more comfortable. Great game ... winnable against a very good team, except for our pass game.

Props to Bison .. they won an ugly game. This will help them at some point .. they're pretty young.

Nice finish for Redbirds in a very uneven season. Need to figure out QB position and pass game ... same old story. This is a top 10 program and roster every year if not for this shortfall.

Same guy got them to the quarters calling the same stuff. Apparently he and I don't know nuttin. :?

And they don't run much read option cause they're a better gap blocking OL than they are a zone blocking OL and you can't argue with the results!

I think there are ways to be less predictable on offense and cover for an inexperienced qb. We hardly ran screen passes. Play action bootlegs would have helped Jefferson by not having to read the whole field.

I also think formations were very predictable this year. Too many jumbo packages allowed teams to stack the box. I think we should have tried more spread offense formations, but running out of it. Also incorporate more misdirection. Pass out of running formations and run out of passing formations.

I just think to beat NDSU, you have to take some risks. We played safe and that kept it close, but we got the ball to the red zone once and across the 50 twice. We only threatened to score once all game and not only that we got dominated in the field position game which makes our defensive performance even better.

Against small teams like SEMO and UCA you can’t argue results , you are right. But against mvfc teams that are as big and physical as you, the offense needed to be creative. At least try a play action pass down field In first half and stop getting fancy on 3rd/4th down and short.

Every other team it seems can throw quick screen passes to outside which we don’t even attempt. The one screen we ran went for 20+ yards.

I dont think we can count on holding Bison to 9 points very often. Our defense played out of its mind today. They can't do this every game. That we can't throw the ball some of the time is not a good thing. Being one dimensional is not going to help us win consistently ... not in MVFC. At some point, we need to figure out how to throw the ball. We would win more consistently for sure.

And in spite of all the bad play calling and screw ups we played NDSU closer than anyone else this year in their butt ugly dome.

Raise your hand if you thought we'd make it this far after YSU. My hand is down.

Outstanding job by players and coaches.

3rd and 2 first drive. Give it to JR 2 times. Tipped pass instead.
4th and 1. Give it to JR. Hurry to the line, penalty instead.
3rd and 2. Give it to JR 2 times. PA pass, drive ends.
Extend these 3 drives and it's a much different game. Bison mentality changes, confidence builds. If they stuff JR on all 3 drives, good for them. But I doubt they would.

The announcers kept touting this old time football. Saying it was good football. I disagree. If old time football was good football, it wouldn't be old football. Old time football, to me, is predictable, bad football. Teams that don't adapt with the times, and don't at least mesh old school and new school get left behind. That is what I see with the way ISU plays offense. They have not progressed or transitioned with the times and it shows. Kids coming out of high school aren't playing this style of football on offense and you can't expect them to play it when they get to college. Being set in your ways is not an excuse anymore. Adapt or die. That's why we cant get a qb to run our offense because every year we're having to teach a new style to the team. This is bad coaching and bad football. It's great having an all time defense, but if you can't score, you might as well tell your defense that what they do doesn't matter anyway. Spack needs to fix this over the next few years because if he doesn't, this team will never be more than what it is. And that's an after thought in this state when it comes to college football.

The defense and OC gave us one td from a win. Players have to make plays. Just too many injuries on the offensive side of the ball this year. Need a second speed receiver next year.

Yes that lateral play sucks but we got away with two bad pass interference calls. I think the calls ended up being even. It was a great game they made a few more plays

Right. And next year they'll be back running a balanced offense. This was a special circumstance. God help us if we have to do this again next year.

Great job by the coaching staff shortening the game and putting us in a position to pull off an enormous upset. The gameplan worked (we were 23 point underdogs) for the most part, but in order to win this game, we needed to play near perfect - which we didn't.

If you would have told me we lose this game 9-3, I would have said you were high as a kite.

Agree it was a great playoff run and finished strong today. Bison are very frustrated with how they played .. our defense really showed up. And kudos to Powell for stepping up when Ridgeway left game .. there was no drop off in the interior.
