Nice post and recap ...
Thanks, 4th. Few other things...
- A little more color on the tailgating situation... The tents are all on the west side of the stadium in the season ticket holder lots. People park in the public lots on the east side and walk over to their group's tent on the west. In a very brisk walk from our car to the lobby of the Fargodome we were invited into two different groups tents. That lobby is very large and your ticket doesn't get scanned to get in there so people were ducking in and out for food, restrooms, etc prior to the game. We were invited into several more tents during a pretty brief time there.
- Tre Lance beat us. I don't know how many 3rd and longs he bailed them out on, but it was many. He did it with is arm and he did it with his legs and he did it consistently.
- The moment was too big for Jefferson. His decision making was decidedly less sound than the last two games.

Thanks StL, re: Jefferson, I know the "technicians" among us and others will argue against "platooning" at QB, but this is why I think the backup QB should ALWAYS get some PT along the way somewhere in the season - couple series here, couple series there. I know each game is different and there isn't always a place for it and it could come back and bite you but still, I'd like to have seen Jefferson get a little PT earlier so it wasn't such a "big moment. And he'd have had some time to build some trust with the OC and Spack. I'm not saying split the time, but you know, end of game, end of quarter, just as a change of pace (God knows there were some times during the season when Davis could have used a chance to catch his breath on the sidelines and collect himself ;) )

Except, wasn't Jefferson the 3rd string? Even if we gave our back up some snaps, Jack Baltz, Jefferson wouldn't get snaps.

Plus, as an added benefit, Jefferson has the ability to really take off with the ball. That alone warrants some playing time just to throw the defenses off. Heck, some still put in a wildcat play now and then with no QB. Jefferson at least still has the ability to throw a long one.

Anybody want to take a guess on how highly ranked we go into next season? If Davis comes back it should be top 5, me thinks. Although, Robinson is a tough loss. I can't believe our running game will be nearly as good without him breaking tackles. Seems like we have a lot of good open field runners that need a little blocking, although I give Proctor a lot of credit for getting some tough yards. He's just not a power back.

:text-+1: Could not agree more about getting the back up qb some reps/experience. That should be part of the game/season strategy. It is the most important position in football so gotta have depth/experience. Based upon how ofter we hear about qb's getting knocked out of games due to injury I am guessing there is a10, 15 or 20%(?) chance that a team loses their starting qb for a portion of or even the remainder of the season due to an injury. Gotta have two qbs mentally prepared to go at all times or a team is rudderless if the qb gets injured.

also completely agree .. we are just not good at developing and preparing a 2nd string QB .. other than last season when Kolbe got benched for Davis, we have not had a 2nd string QB capable of coming into game without shutting down more than half the playbook.

In general, our Coaches need to recognize we have to do better job recriuting and developnig our QBs .. we just are not good at it. We're usually strong just about everywhere else but at that position in our pass game.

Kudos to the whole team this season...........

Yes the team needs to develop all the Quarterbacks.....

As Brady Davis improved with more experience this season. Jack Baltz made it onto the field and had some college game experience and saved a redshirt......

I like Bryce Jefferson's foot speed and the way he played, just work Him on reading defenses, pass plays, read options. This is my end of the season, next season starter pick......

Next Year, Eastern Illinois(high attendance) at home is a low risk game that you could play multiple QB's, also the last game before the teams playoff bye week, with Dixie State at home(attendance will be low)...

Competition is always a good thing. I hope this at every position.

Didn't Davis transfer from Ole Miss?

Question...

In our last series, NDSU jumped offsides and Jefferson completed the pass (amazing catch by Edgar, so believe). Instead of taking the penalty and being in a position of 1st and 5, we declined and were in a position of 2nd and 2.
Seems to me the right call 100% of the time is to accept the penalty in that situation?

I think it is debatable .... at that point, more downs would be helpful, but another 1st down also gets you more downs. Imagine if we take penalty and then miss on the next play, and now were sitting 2nd & 5 with a little less time .. clock possibly running and have to burn another timeout as a result.
