No question the best part of this run is Benson getting cocky. This is comical from a guy that has sat on his couch and taken quotes from WJBC during basketball season.

This site and Twitter often have the Pantagraph scooped when it comes to the Birds. I can understand why their subscription base continues to decline, with reporters putting in Benson-level work. Randy R. certainly does more.

Back to the baseball Birds - we need to take advantage of this game likely being against a non-weekend starter. Score early and try to score often where our opponent has to go to the pen and we can play loose.

If we have to go to the pen early, our #3 starter could become a reliever in an If Necessary game. Same with Headrick becoming an option, as long as his arm is up to it.

My first key to the game: see pitches early. Unless the guy is lobbing over first pitch strikes, elevate his count.

Yesterday was an awesome experience. We saw the UIC/Indiana game and there was a great story there as well. The freshman reliever who entered the game for Indiana and pitched 3 and 2/3 scoreless relief had lost his father to a heart attack the previous week. The family was sitting two rows in front of us with t-shirts honoring the father and this son.

The weather was awesome and the only thing better was the game. The Birds are scrappy, focused, and played exceptional defense. We sat next to a few Hoosier fans during that game who were rooting for ISU. We came to find out one of them played basketball with Dan in high school. He and his father had nothing but praise for Dan as an athlete and person.

Sadly we had to drive back last night for my nephew's birthday. I hope a few of you make the trip ... it was/is a great experience. The baseball team deserves our support and you will not be disappointed. BTW ... they sell beer at Louisville for $6 for those if you that care about that.

I spoke with some Indiana fans yesterday and they claim they play Louisville very tough every year. I did not verify this but they indicated they have a winning record against Louisville the past 10 games or so. They also mentioned they lost to Louisville in 12 innings this year (I believe they said the game was in Louisville).

Here's hoping to another extra inning game between them and maybe the Hoosiers can pull off the upset. They can hit (so can Louisville) but their pitching does not look as dominant.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hopeful the birds can pull off a win later today.

Watch through the end ... his teammates seem very tight given who we are playing lol

Ok rough going this afternoon - down 6-1 in the 8th. We'll have to hope our #1 is ready to go tomorrow if we don't make a late inning comeback. Indy State playing in regional final tonite vs Vandy - they need to win to make it to tomorrow. DBU in their own make or break vs Texas Tech down 3-0 in 5th

Any idea who will start for the Redbirds tomorrow?

Good question ... Headrick through 111 pitches on Friday so I can't imagine he could throw thst much. Wickland or Johnson and if we are close throw Headrick later in game

Max scholarships allowed in baseball is 11.7 for 27 players. Anyone receiving a scholarship gets a minimum of .25. The depth on the top tier teams is amazing .... how they divide up the scholarships is amazing too.

As I watch many of the Regionals, today I have noticed the power conference schools pitching depth really standing out. Schools like ISU are on par with them when able to throw their #1 and sometimes #2... But, when you get into 3,4,5 and the bullpen, it really starts getting clear why these teams are host schools. Louisville starter today I assume was their #4, and he was damn good.

Holm is going to figure out something for tomorrow. I would have all hands on deck except Walker. Headrick may be able to get u 1 or 2 innings.

Good for them to get out of the jam, but should definitely be 0-0 headed into 2.
