The 'Birds have made Griffin's final list of four. The other three are Pitt, Iowa State and Kansas. Wow.

He will be on campus for an official visit at the end of the month.

They better take him to Fort Jesse Cafe for breakfast, then Portillo's for lunch...that will seal the deal!

Illinois fans are already up in arms about this, saying it must be a mistake in the Henricksen tweets.

Griffin plays for the Illinois Wolves, Mike Mullins' team...

He might have felt obligated to trim our younger, fatter sister to the east after learning that they don't recruit the same prospects as we do.

It very well could be. I think recruits do that a lot as I outlined in my previous post. Lets hope for a commit when he is on campus. Hopefully he doesn't make it to Kansas. As others have said, he has the opportunity lead here, likely start from day 1. He is not a 1 and done play so he won't start for KU, and MIGHT be the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench? Perhaps this is just wishful thinking by me.

Also, if he were to come here we could just give him Roland's old jersey. Same number, same name.

Just an update regarding his recruitment. Yes, Yak was the lead guy on Zion, but Muller was there for nearly everything Yak was. Muller said he feels comfortable about recruiting after losing the 2 assistants because he has been actively involved with the 2018 guys.

Food for thought, a lot of times, when bigger recruits cut their list they will throw in a school that doesn't belong, perhaps to show loyalty to one of the first teams that offered. For example David Duke Jr. cut his list to Indiana, Florida, Nova, but also included Va Tech and Providence. Simi Shittu cut his list to UK, UNC, ORE, SC, AZ, ND, UConn, but threw in AZ State, Vandy, and New Mexico. Finally, Nassir Little cut his list to Duke, Miami, Arizona, UNC and......Georgia Tech! Just a trend I have noticed.

So you are implying that P5s are hanging on due to loyalty? I'm not buying that. I might believe that more in true mid major examples.

Only if Dan has preferred cut to the front of the line status. Waiting in line for hours during a visit would serve to annoy me.

It's less about conference affiliation and more about what schools "fit" together. There are the Dukes, UNC, UK, KU, Oregons, and UCLAs of the world which are typically the front runners for top recruits. However, these top recruits often include teams "beneath" the aforementioned type of programs. So a player might list their top 5 as Duke, UNC, UK, Oregon, and then throw in a "lesser" program like a New Mexico.

Another example of a final 8 Jermaine Harris‏ listed Kansas, Xavier, South Carolina, West Virginia, Miami, but then also Rhode Island and Southern Utah. A final 12 from Khavon Moore included UCLA, Oklahoma, USC, 8 other P5 schools and Mercer. There is always one school that doesn't make sense given the other finalists.

Re:portillos, My family has gone a few times (soft open and since they have opened), and the have all said it has not taken more that 20 minutes to get their food.

I had high hopes for Roland Griffin. I even started a special cheer for him when he scored ... from that Rawhide song. He would score and I would sing "Roland Roland". He scored about six baskets total if I remember correctly ... the cheer never caught on .... sigh. I had dreams that by his senior year the whole stadium would be going "Roland Roland". ;)

Portillo's has had good service so far. How long can Portillo's keep the 1:1 customer to employee ratio?

Looks like he changed his mind about committing on the spot. He says in this article that he will take all of his visits before deciding.

Even though I'm 99% sure ISU wont get Zion the fact that Illinois State is in the top 4 of a top 100 players will get noticed by other prospects. This is a great thing for ISU despite the end result of this specific player. And, last season was a big factor in his decision I bet, as well, and maybe even Muller's tweet. That tweet really elevated ISU's stature.

Isn't there some question as to Copeland being eligible? If he has an offer from Kansas are you sure he's not better than Copeland or Elijah?

Bummer! I fear you are correct. Well, the worst case is that he still plays here for two years. I'm glad we didn't lose him for good.
We'll just have to await for an announcement I guess.

One of the local media guys will have to actually ask Muller about it... I know it's asking a lot for the beat reporters to do their job...
