“I talked with my mom and family to see what they thought was best, but I also just thought of where I can see myself over the next several years,” says Griffin. “The relationship with the coaching staff was the biggest thing. When I leave my mom, the coaches become almost like a parent to you, so that was important to me.”

We are in his final 4 but the quoted part scares me since we lost all our assistant coaches...

The 'Birds have made Griffin's final list of four. The other three are Pitt, Iowa State and Kansas. Wow.

He will be on campus for an official visit at the end of the month.

Or maybe he loves Coach Muller.

Great job by Muller to get him to take an official visit! Kid is obviously very interested in ISU so hopefully Dan and the new staff can close it out.

Also, preparing for redkerr1's spin on the situation in 3...2...1...

Illinois fans are already up in arms about this, saying it must be a mistake in the Henricksen tweets.

Griffin plays for the Illinois Wolves, Mike Mullins' team...

Didn't wake up this morning and think to be in the same conversation for a recruit with Kansas.

Let's close this one, Dan and Co.!

Can anyone name other highly touted recruits to play at ISU or have the Birds in the final 5 or so?

Good times.

Zion's Mom would be able to attend a lot of games at RA driving from Hinsdale. Plus games in Chicago, Valparaiso and Peoria. That's about 15 or so games she could see in person if he chose to be a Redbird. :D

Weird quote about Stallings:

Pitt

“Their coach doesn’t really offer over the phone and they like to offer face to face, but I couldn’t get out there for a visit so they did everything in their power to show me they wanted me and not just saying that they wanted me.”

Also, this is good for us since we are first on his list:

“My deadline is the end of September, but if I take an official and feel like this is where I want to go I will commit right there on the spot. If everything plays out I will commit at the end of the visits in September.”

We are way overdue to beat out P5s to get a coveted stud like this. It's our turn. Make it happen.

Sounds like a very mature kid. He can certainly make a big impact at ISU. If he's looking to be around a good guy who will look out for him, he can't do better than Dan!

Thought the same thing Timmy. His quotes show maturity and solid parenting. Hopefully that works in our favor.

Just an update regarding his recruitment. Yes, Yak was the lead guy on Zion, but Muller was there for nearly everything Yak was. Muller said he feels comfortable about recruiting after losing the 2 assistants because he has been actively involved with the 2018 guys.

Food for thought, a lot of times, when bigger recruits cut their list they will throw in a school that doesn't belong, perhaps to show loyalty to one of the first teams that offered. For example David Duke Jr. cut his list to Indiana, Florida, Nova, but also included Va Tech and Providence. Simi Shittu cut his list to UK, UNC, ORE, SC, AZ, ND, UConn, but threw in AZ State, Vandy, and New Mexico. Finally, Nassir Little cut his list to Duke, Miami, Arizona, UNC and......Georgia Tech! Just a trend I have noticed.

Zion plays for Illinois Wolves. Makes the Mullins hire seem even better than what it already seemed.

Dan Muller is playing chess and Bill Self is playing checkers.
