Not unexpected, but it still sucks. I do like that Muller and staff are making more effort in high-level Chicago kids.

Agree. And who knows? Year or two down the line, maybe he realizes he went to the wrong ISU.

Need to "blow up" about 6 months later than he did to give the Redbirds a shot. Still giddy over Payton, but Griffin would have been a helluva piece to go with him.

Stoked we were in his last 4. Says a lot about the goals and work ethic of this coaching staff.

Source - do you think this is just a hat tip to a good effort by HCDM?

I do now. Muller has said this on several occasions. "The first best thing a recruit can tell you is yes. The second best thing they can tell you is no." Now, Muller and Co. and stop wasting their time and hone in on a different recruit, though we currently have 1 scholarship to give (Martin's if it doesn't go to Copeland, Dixon has the other vacant spot.)

Griffin is transferring from Iowa State. A lot has changed in the last couple years with the roster and coaches but it seems Muller was heavily involved in his recruitment. He’d be a sit 1 play two kid. Could very well see him in the MVC. Hopefully not at Loyola or Southern Illinois...

Or worse, BU

Wash your mouth out. Oh, and wash your hands too.

Bradley seems to recruit the state as bad or worse than we do. Bradley would be the least of the 4 places he would end up IMO.

But then again... we technically have -1 scholarship.

No MVC teams in his top 6, but UIC is... Yak was on staff when we first recruited him and I’m sure Zion would love to play close to home.

Not sure if this is a mistake. Article below says ISU one of final 6. But the cardinal logo in Zion’s reveal was Ball St not Illinois St.

This one didn't intrigue me as much as some of the others. We need frontcourt guys that can defend and rebound immediately.

I think we will offer a big and a wing. I would take him ... he was a 4 star recruit. Sounds like he was banged up ... I think he would be worth giving a chance.

Adunk, I know we're not in his final group but do you think he just didn't want to come here anymore, or maybe there was a lack of interest on our end? Yak not being here I'm sure is part of the reason.
I think he'd do well here, but oh well. We need to sign a good big dude.

This situation reminds me of Najeeb Echols. Was ok but nothing to get too excited about.

You may be on to something with the Yak connection. However, Yak was not here in 2018 when Zion would've graduated from high school and committed. Plus, Griffin sites that Muller and Mullins were the ones on him during initial recruiting. (From earlier in the thread)

When I left there this weekend I did feel like I was at home,” says Griffin of his official visit to ISU. “You can tell that they want me and that they’ve made me a real priority for them. They’ve been on me from the beginning, and I have a very good relationship with coach Muller and coach [Brendan] Mullins from when he was at UIC.”

I loved Najeeb! He wasn't ever a great baller but he did wear No.33. I have his jersey in my basement.
