This was the case in the late 70s when I was there too....

I would guess that NPD had a way to give tickets to horses and buggies too.

During homecoming several years ago Normal PD gave me a ticket on college for going 35 in a 30 because it was a "high traffic area" with it being homecoming weekend. That was cool.

35 in a 30??? What part of College?

In front of Anderson Park headed toward campus.

I was issued a ticket for the “Improper display of a tinted license plate cover” in Normal, headed to class at Heartland. $75 fine I think. I purchased said license plate cover at the Auto Zone in Bloomington. Could have done a compliance ticket and just told me to remove it. In fact I offered to rip the thing off on the spot, but no... $75 fine.

Normal PD sucks a bunch.

Gotta say the license plate cover thing sounds kind of sketchy. Especially when the poster said he would take it off on the spot.

bb fan - you should feel very FORTUNATE you do not live in the People's Republic of Normal.

My wife got a ticket once out in front of Chiddix Junior High School - she was parked in front of the school to unload supplies for her classroom several days before the school year was to start. A Normal cop gave her ticket because she was parked in the bus lane. We fought that and beat it - but, it cost me more to fight it, than if we would have paid the ticket. It is beyond a racket. This incident does not include the 6 other items with my kids, which I have previously talked about.

That's just plain ridiculous, Birdswin. I recall reading about your other adventures with the NPD.

Anyone who would put a “tinted license plate cover” on their car deserves a ticket

All the locals know about the Normal PD traffic policies. Years ago, this policy accounted for nearly 40% of their department budget. I would not live in Normal if you gave me a place.

well unfortunately all you had to do is check the local blono police blotter for Yarbrough news. Let's hope he has matured and there are no future Yarbrough threads that are not basketball related.

I don't mean to speak for RedbirdSoxfan, but I think the poster is saying he goes to threads thinking he is gonna read something about the subject matter,, but it has gone off the rails like so many discussions do. I feel your pain, RedbirdSoxFan

BB...the point I was trying to get across was that no one has derailed talking about Milik Yarbrough and basketball more than Milik Yarbrough. Talking about police, tickets, courts ...etc is talking about the subject matter of this thread .

I am just responding to RedbirdSoxfans, post. ChiRedbirdfan. Going back and looking at the posts, the last 9 have no mention of Milik at all. As you say, they are all about their (the posters) interaction with Normal law enforcement. I get where RedbirdSoxfan is coming from. I am not saying that's right or wrong. I find the discussion interesting. I think it as moved to a discussion about the NPD's treatment of the town's residents.

People need to self police. That ain’t Quinn’s job. If it is out of line, call it out and tell the poster to start a new thread, assuming it remotely relates to ISU men’s basketball! Skip Schaeffbauer is a Normal firefighter, but I don’t think that gets anywhere close to generalized criticism of the NPD back when any of us old farts were at ISU! 😀

This charge relates to pushing of the girl down the stairs.

Referring to Yarbrough as "a hard working student athlete" who relies on scholarships to cover his education expenses, the judge told Yarbrough she hoped she would see him on the basketball court or in the news for his play — and not in a courtroom.

"I hope this was just one minute of bad judgement," Hill said of the criminal case.
