ISU can go to ways in the level of coach they hire. 1st will the level.of commitment to moving up to the AAC or the CUSA. With other athletic programs needing to increase the level of compilation for them, the MBB can benefit. Hence, the need to hire a higher level coach to be competitive.
2nd, if the school decides not to elevate the basketball program as they do other programs then hiring a lesser-known or division II coach would be the better option. I know that some of you will disagree by saying that Murray State and Belmont and joining the Missouri Valley Conference, would Elevate the program. I would strongly disagree. Missouri Valley would still be only a one bid league with Loyola moving on that only leaves two good teams.
With ISU losing their volleyball coach is a sure sign that the commitment to a bigger conference is needed to attain and maintain great coaches. From the volleyball standpoint, the MVC is only a 2 team league as well , and I wouldn't blame her for leaving to go to have a chance at a higher ranking just by being in a bigger conference, in this case Michigan State.
I conclusion, being a big fish in a small pond is just that, limiting. And as a sports Community if you want their Athletics to be to have better athletes and better coaches you have to make a commitment to do so. I just hope that you are willing to move on as well from that small pond because some of you are a very small pond minded. As all of you are very painfully aware, that many schools that moved away from the MVC start gaining more national ranking after doing so. So go you damn Redbirds and win this game.

I don't want anyone associated with the coaching style of muller except Yak but it's clear he was the best coach from that 2016 team. But, he'd be dumb to come here over UIC.
He’s clearly been a successful asst in the B10 and his PGs that he’s coach have been some of the best in country in assist to turnover ratio. Freshman Chucky Hepburn has 1 turnover in wins at Purdue, Mich St, and Indiana.

Yak isn’t coming. We just fired his best friend so why would he want to leave a school in the same league?

Go get Dean Oliver. As a Wisconsin fan I would not want him to leave but as an ISU fan here is why I think he’s a good option

1- point guard is the most important position on the court and Dean was an excellent PG at Iowa
2- he was an asst. at ISU when Muller had his best years. Look at the career Paris Lee had
3- Dean came after a very difficult time surrounding the program. He’s also dealt with some difficult stuff at UW in the Howard Moore accident so he’ll be able to put the pieces back together.
4- he can recruit and he knows his Xs and Os, IMHO, better than Muller.
5- he will run a clean program, guys will go to class, graduate, work, hard, etc.

to me this would be the first guy I reach out to if I’m the AD.
Muller was a world class defender and his teams played turnstile defense.
Points 2-5 are solid.
Just sayin’…

Hendo is now 25-4/16-0 at SDSU. He'll likely go undefeated in their conference. 2nd in the nation in scoring and 3's behind Gonzaga. And he's not a pipe dream. We can actually afford him.

Can you out recruit SD? Where would you rather live at 18 years old- SD or Illinois?

Don’t knock South Dakota as a place to live. Have you looked at their governor lately. And, she came off a farm/ranch. She is a lot more attractive than the Illinois governor but not as rich. So looks or money your choice. And, before anyone gets upset this post is entirely tongue in cheek.

South Dakota doesn't have a state income tax so that makes a difference in all that sweet sweet NIL money. Plus it's beautiful.

I have never been there. Sounds like if his priority is his family and keeping them in a nice place to live then SD is the place...

However, the MVC is a step up from the Summit, so if he's got dreams of making it big in the coaching ranks, I imagine he'd be willing to listen to what ISU has to offer

Small pond thinking...bigger conference means bigger opponents equals bigger crowds. And the men's basketball program is about the fourth or fifth priority for the athletic department at this point anyway. Well unless you like going watching ISU playing Dixie State Quincy College other than playing Memphis State and Tulsa and other schools like that or even matched up against Wichita State again would be great to play Tulsa Wichita State on a regular basis again

not sure the future CUSA make-up (Florida International, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, Sam Houston State, Texas-El Paso, Western Kentucky) is considered "moving up" at this point. CUSA could actually be considred a "moist" (or even dry) pond.

If ISU scheduled any of those schools, in any sport, would it be viewed as a step up in competition? Yes, they would be "FBS", but I would bet the fanbase would think we can beat any of them.

CUSA membership, in an of itself, will not retain any coach ... PERIOD.
