I voted for Turgeon. Above it says he was a former coach at Wichita and Texas AM. BUT, Turg was at Maryland for the last 10 years, almost as long as the other 2 schools combined. He won the Big 10 in 2020 and was coach of the year in the Big 10 in 2015. Turg has won 10 NCAA games and has a winning % of .634 in his career. GET HIM!

In all seriousness I don't believe he's an option. Issac Brown will be fired at season end and Mark Turgeon will head back to Wichita State unless they can make a grand slam hire. Jans would be another who would want that job.

I’d like to point out that in life, we have all made our fair share of mistakes. When several players had run ins with the law, Saint Muller seemed to be okay giving them second, third and fourth chances. Maybe he believes people can change and be better people.

Would it be unfair to not grant the same courtesy to a coach who made a mistake, paid the price and from all I can tell has become a better man?

Prohm would be a hard no for me. I live in Iowa, and saw what Iowa State basketball turned in to under Prohm. They won 2 games last year and zero conference games. He seemed like a good man that couldn't handle a bigger stage.
Our “stage” is pretty small these days:)

I worry that Chris Jans would get into Reggie Lynch territory with off campus activities while here. Maybe unfair but that would be my worry.
I believe in second chances. The dude can coach. Maybe add a clause that allows for immediate dismissal with no payout.

It’s tough. Because do you hire a newbie that is a huge risk considering how much work our program needs? Do you hire a broken but once great coach that needs rehabilitated? Or do you cash out the money and get a safe pick? 2/3 is high risk- high reward.
I really like the idea of a young, energetic, coach.
Someone that can relate to these kids and has connections to Chicago talent.
Not sure who that would be though?

I'd love to get Turgeon, I just don't see us having the money to do so, nor he a desire to go back to the mid-major ranks.

I agree, while the experience would be beneficial…I see a “younger coach” maybe < 50 as being a better fit with today’s student athletes. That then unfortunately limits your candidate pool from most coaches with head coaching experience. Tough call.

Most here didn't seem to fond of taking chances on a couple of problem child ships out of 13 by Dan on a regular basis. Seems an even higher risk for a spot filled by only one person. Considering the clean candidates out there with similar reward potential.

The most important thing to me is that the contract be written by the ISU attorney not the coaches agent

I do too. Assuming they get it right. Remember Muller was a young coach. Something happened after 2017. He should have been on the fast track.

Yeah one of his best friends and 6 other close men died. He just never got back to winning.
Dude, I don't want to sound like a jerk- but Shaq Morris mother was going through cancer and passed away and he played through it. That wasn't why Muller had five straight miserable seasons. Ricky Jacksons mom passed away and he played the championship game and willed the Birds to the NCAA Tournament.

2017-(28-7/17-1) Birds got screwed by NCAA Tournament Committee. Only two losses coming to a Wichita State team that was pretty damn good:
2013-Final Four
2014-2nd Round loss
2015-Sweet 16
2016-2nd Round Loss
2017-2nd Round Loss

2018-McIntosh (Oregon), Hawkins (Boston College), Fayne, Yarbrough, and a healthy Elijah Clarance likely would have given the Birds a good shot at winning the Valley (or an at-large bid).

Every one deals with grief differently. You may not want to sound like a jerk but you do. He was also supposed to be on that plane. I know I'd have a lot of effing guilt if every one died in a plane crash I was supposed to be on.

The 2017 team was probably good enough to be in the dance, but they suffered some bad losses that gave the committee all they needed to keep them out. Only 1 quality win, and both losses to Wichita were embarrassments. Unfortunately they didn’t do enough
