Every one deals with grief differently. You may not want to sound like a jerk but you do. He was also supposed to be on that plane. I know I'd have a lot of effing guilt if every one died in a plane crash I was supposed to be on.
Again, that was horrible. But, it shouldn't be something that allows a program to spiral for five years.

You are right. We saw it’s affects pretty quickly after the 2016-17. The DJ and Reeves class felt like he got back to the basics. Covid hit. This was the first year that felt more like early Dan. Too bad injuries, more Covid, and some slumps happened. Change was absolutely due, but to say that crash didn’t change something would be a flat out lie.

Covid, Injuries and slumps hit every team. Maybe look at poor recruiting, inability to retain players, and poor coaching strategy.

You’re right, but I was pointing to the change going back to 2017. Relying so heavily on transfers was a failure. He was trying to build that 4 year class once it got out of control. He failed.

Relying heavily on transfers the 2017-2018 year hit for a little bit, but it was a quick fix. I wish I would have seen the 2018-2019 team with Clarance, Bruninga and Madison Williams. The freshman after that 1st recruiting class was not good and as you said he didn't handle covid-19, transfers or injuries well.

I think one of the biggest misses was poaching 2 guys from a losing program at SJSU. Sure both did some solid things here, but neither helped the team win.

Look at those 2 guys, it was a waste of scholarships. 2 years for them to play 1. Torres was also there that year and he didn't work out. Wish Dan would have gone Freshman or juco route instead of grad transfer or senior transfer but thats what you learn.

Dude, I don't want to sound like a jerk- but Shaq Morris mother was going through cancer and passed away and he played through it. That wasn't why Muller had five straight miserable seasons. Ricky Jacksons mom passed away and he played the championship game and willed the Birds to the NCAA Tournament.
The issue with using terms like "willed them" is that it presumes anyone isn't able to do the same doesnt have as strong of will, faith, or character, or any other positive characteristic. This is more of a general point, because I personally can't stand hearing broadcasters or anyone else say things like that. The worst is "they just wanted it more". Like the team that loses just wakes up and goes "eh. I could take or leave a win today". It implies that if Dan just had more "will" in response to the deaths of those human beings, he'd have accomplished more. Something I fundamentally disagree with.

Also, if Jans was still an assistant, or even a low-major HC, I could see him being a candidate. But he has a good thing going at NMSt. They're winning a lot and dancing regularly...dont see how anyone but a P5 school lures him away from that. Him coming here would be a lateral move at best and probably even a step back, since he has to rebuild a program.

I do not disagree with what you are saying, but Muller did continue to cash in the large checks ISU was writing for years after the event. Hopefully getting away from ISU\BloNo will get him back on his track.

So, I spent 10 minutes thinking about it. Unless we can get a coach that handle the new landscape of MBB, get boosters on board for NIL recruiting packages, and/or manage the transfer portal to know how to win immediately, because at this moment I believe talent at ISU will hit that portal and leave ISU, then ISU.....ahh forget it.

GGG
Turd
Prohm

I am not sure GGG or Turd can compete with this new MBB landscape, a significantly smaller MBB budget, smaller fanbase that could put together an attractive NIL to get recruits, manage the transfer portal in and out, or handle today's player types (ok, Turd be better than GGG, but both can probably get a quick boost)

I would think that Marshall’s player abuse charges at Wichita State would drastically affect his ability to bring in recruits.

We would also have a better chance of hiring him if we just ignore the inappropriate behavior with the college girls that got him fired at Bowling Green. Also, we would need to ignore the fact that he flipped off the ISU crowd at Redbird after a Wichita win.

I voted for Turgeon. Above it says he was a former coach at Wichita and Texas AM. BUT, Turg was at Maryland for the last 10 years, almost as long as the other 2 schools combined. He won the Big 10 in 2020 and was coach of the year in the Big 10 in 2015. Turg has won 10 NCAA games and has a winning % of .634 in his career. GET HIM!

no arguing any of this

Tarise Bryson player-coach. He will “rise” the program. Plus, he played for the Globetrotters and we can play Sweet Georgia Brown when he walks on the floor. The place would go nuts.
