Which raises other questions, not necessarily ones that can't be dealt with, but whatever tuition is for BYU, isn't that gonna be "income" to the student or his parents? And if it's the student, maybe no longer a deduction on folks' taxes? So many issues get raised by this crap.Built bar paid for the school of all the walk ons for the BYU football team
Come on Humdinger, Zero chance! I had a Zero chance of E J Liddell finishing up his college career as a Redbird and that didn’t happen for me. Can’t you @ least give me 0.05% chance that a little NIL benefits could persuade Tone to hang out with his buddies here for one more year?It truly has become "legitimate" pay-to-play. Can you hear the marbles rattling around as I shake my head?
Soxie, I love your ambition but we have zero shot at Reeves.
And here's the thing. If he were my son (who know maybe he is), I'd tell him to bid himself out, too. Think about it. One really good monster game...in the right conference, the right program (high visibility)...just ONE...could generate his little empire...6 figures.
Buh bye mid-major programs, RIP. Buhbye. Your luggage was already packed a few years ago...
It's still not a bad gig. Degree paid for...housing covered...food covered...travel with very good hotel and food accommodations...excellent athletic training resources...perhaps a wee bit of NIL money...nice Arena to call your home...ya still get to shoot buckets for a while longer. No...not a bad gig. Matter of fact, it's a heck of a gig and a great way to transition into professional life!
But it's baseball in the low minors compared to the movers&shakers. How do you now compete with that??
I think is/was a greater chance of Reeves returning vs E.J. transferring to ISU. I will give you 1%Come on Humdinger, Zero chance! Thanks, I’ll take that! I’m a half glass full guyI think is/was a greater chance of Reeves returning vs E.J. transferring to ISU. I will give you 1%
In the past the team has been able to practice/workout through the NCAA championship game. I am not sure if that is still true and if so, who has been attending.Serious question; Who did Tone hangout with to watch the semi’s last night? Does he still hang with the guys he’s bailing on in a month?
Did the team hangout together to watch the games? Is he still considered part of the team?
Well, if its anything like everything else when moneys involved then I can guarantee you'll make enough for a season ticket in kickbacks and a down payment on a Rivian truck with a tasty rateSo I need to start a front business and then ask for donations so my said business can funnel money to the student athletes. What kind of salary would you all let me take?
This is all so messed upIt looks like Kendall Gill is heading it up. I'm sure he has a few other former Illini athletes pitching in. Then toss in an alumni worth $8 billion. They can definitely "pay" Kofi for a year what he might make in the NBA. It will be interesting to see if donors shift their donations from the university to the NIL/ Guardians. If something like this were to happen here, Doug Collins probably needs to be the one that gets behind it. But your are right, you would think with the businesses around town something could be generated. Kofi looks like he made some $$ with OSF this year. Not sure who oversees NIL in the athletic department, but Sean Johnson appears to be someone that could do well at making the connections?
The team is still working out. There have been a couple of social media posts with them in the weight room. Strong, Lewis, Jayden Johnson and Fleming have all been shown in the photos. They also did a "Birds give back" to a local elementary school last week with Fleming, Strong, Lewis and Schmitt in attendance. In the past the team has been able to practice/workout through the NCAA championship game. Just curious . . . if Tone leaves, does Pedon get the same “can’t recruit” bellows that Muller got when Moore left?
So, does anyone care to put a price tag on an NIL deal that might keep Reeves here, say $100,000? Is this what college basketball has come to???KU Sports
Sixth Man Strategies, which oversees and manages name, image and likeness opportunities for all 18 Kansas men’s basketball players, has rolled out its initial NIL initiatives. The first comes in the form of a raffle that will give 20 winners and a guest of their choosing the opportunity to have...m.kusports.com
100 donors x $1,000 x 12 months = $1,200,000 per year for the men's basketball team. Hard to comete against plus any other fund raising activities they have.
Well, putting my old school, get off my lawn, Mr. Naive hat on, I hope no one is transferring just for the money. Transferring because you think you'll get more exposure, a chance to up your game against better competition, etc., if that's what you think, I get. But yes, we are in a world of hurt if people are really going out and "buying" players, at least players like Reeves. God love him, but I don't know that he's worth $100K, you know what I mean? Sure hope that's not what it's come to.So, does anyone care to put a price tag on an NIL deal that might keep Reeves here, say $100,000? Is this what college basketball has come to???
This is what I've been saying. It's really turning me off to college basketball. At this point, just let the schools pay them, make new divisions based on what you can pay a team and be done with it.This is all so messed up
Nah...but he will if he can't get us to the NCAA in 2-3 years.Just curious . . . if Tone leaves, does Pedon get the same “can’t recruit” bellows that Muller got when Moore left?
