Mike Zimmer getting heat after the first pre-season game with the Vikings. The former Redbird has had a pretty good run with the Vikings but I think the fan base is getting a little tired maybe of the ups and downs. Zimmer's record since he took over the helm in 2014 is 7-9; 11-5; 8-8; 13-3; 8-7; 10-6 and 7-9. I guess this should be an up year if his pattern holds true. The Vikings got clobbered by the Broncos but Zimmer sat almost all his starters. I can't see any reason to ever get upset or elated about a pre-season game. I wonder how long Zimmer lasts in the great north? I think he probably needs a pretty good season this year. Coaching is a tough profession.

Mike Zimmer will be a head coach in the NFL as long as he wants to be. If the Vikings fired him today, there would be a dozen teams that would have the checkbook out for him within the week. He is one of the most respected coaches in the league and will never ever be hurting for a job.

Look at the rosters with those records and then be like "Well, damn. He did that with THAT?!" He is an excellent coach.

I spend a fair amount of time consuming Minnesota media, since our cabin is up here and we spend a lot of time here. There is some grumbling about Zimmer, but I think for the most part the informed criticism is on the front office. Drew Cousins is largely seen as a bust. Their offensive line has had problems for years - draft choices that didn't work out, etc. The D, Zimmer's specialty, for the most part has been solid. But, it really wouldn't surprise me to see them make a change just for change sake. They need to get it going this year.

I took a look at some Arkansas sites to see how Ridgeway is doing. Some nice comments about him in this article. Early still but it sounds as if he is doing well so far. I thought he was the biggest loss of the off-season for the Birds. Such a dominant player at the FCS level. I plan on tuning in to a few Razorback games this year.

We are heading to Fayetteville for Parents Weekend and to catch the Arkansas-Georgia Southern game on September 18, so hopefully I'll get a first-hand look at how Ridgeway is doing after he has had the opportunity to get a couple of games under his belt. The Razorbacks host t.u. on September 11 at 6:00pm; it's possible that game might end up being broadcast on the SEC network or one of the ESPN channels. Woo pig sooie! 🐖

JRob on tv tonight. He started the first 2 series and ran the ball a few times but didn't get much yardage but didn't have any room to run. I thought he might be done for the night after the 2nd series but came back on about the 5 series. He had a good block on a blitzer that was pointed out by the announcers. I also saw James O playing. The Jags remain bad and Urban will probably regret coming out of retirement for this.

Watched a lot of the second quarter and JRob played quite a bit, but only saw him crack off one good run for a first down.

NFL Network is running a crawl at bottom of screen of its projected Top 100 in the NFL. JRob is the first name (i.e.,#100).

I don't think it's projected, I think the players voted on their top 100? Could be wrong.

One man's bummer is another man's opportunity. Packers safety Will Redmond, a "special teams stalwart" according to the Madison newspaper, was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Christian Uphoff, your table is ready.

Yeah Uphoff had a nice game for Packers- worse case scenario he should be practice squad
Bello is IR with Titans
Tre Roberson fighting for spot with Bears - gonna be tough - hopefully he can make practice squad
JRob - lock
James OShaugnessy - should make it
Kirk - gonna be tough but practice squad strong possibility
Shelby Harris - lock
Himmelman - gonna be tough but practice squad strong possibility
D Harris - gonna be tough with 49ers but still a chance
Liedtke - free agent
Schnell - free agent i believe

I can't recall ever seeing him interviewed while at ISU .. very well spoken and matter of fact. Hope he is fully recovered from hammy ... big for your position, can run and make plays, and seems to have more upside .. very hard to cut guy like this. Or at least get put on practice squad for longer look. If he's truly healthy, I got to believe he will stick somewhere if not GB.
