Valpo's beat writer admitted on twitter that he forgot about Key when voting. Go easy on him, though; he's new here and Recon and I have otherwise dubbed him an honorary Redbird because he ate calzones and chatted us up after the Valpo game.

He was not allowed to vote this year.

Also - I am now hungry for calzones :( :(

My thoughts exactly.
If only ISU could take over games when I'm pissed.

Time to steal Marshall's Play Angry. ISU needs to Play Pissed.

Keyshawn is 5th in scoring in the conference, 8th in assists, 4th in 3pt %, 2nd in 3 pointers made, has the 5th best assist to TO ratio, and 12th in min played, and that's not good enough to even land on the third team? I hope this is bulletin board for Key.

Agree. Major chip on the shoulder time!

Give them all something to remember this weekend. Not sure what's a bigger slap in the face .... not being considered worthy of MVC honors or being forgotten about.

Almost as good as when Donewald rubbed it in Raynard's face that a ISU/Tulsa game article was clearly making fun of Raynard, but made the point they couldn't even remember his name for the article. Raynard responded with an epic MVC tourney title game as ISU destroyed Tulsa.

We would have an undefeated streak since about 1986.

Well by my estimation if that were to happen we would have an undefeated streak that dates back to 1986.

Donte Thomas is 2nd-team All-Valley and Keyshawn Evans isn't 3rd team?

No.

Keyshawn is better than Darrell Brown too.
Completely agree - no way Brown especially should beat our Evans, ridiculous.

Keyshawn didn't even get on the most improved team, despite averaging 10 more points per game this year. I honestly cannon believe it and think Key will average about 40 points per game in this tournament.

Absolutely brutal. About as bad as SiU’s beat writer not having Milik in his top 10 players this year.

I beg to differ. ISU Fan 1 is the soul of the Redbirds.

I don't know if he can do a grad transfer or not, but to me he needs to stay and show some stability. I think next year's team should be the MVC favorite, so hopefully he stays for the potential, though it's kinda hard to figure how he feels about DM. Their relationship seems a bit rocky, but I feel the coach has his best interests at heart.

Where can I get action on the under 40?

This is a subject that can be revisited after the season is over. But here are my thoughts on this:

Next year has the makings of one of the greatest season in Illinois State Basketball history (If the right pieces return).
Here are my thoughts on who may, or may not return, and why:

These four players have one year of eligibility left and would have to sit out a full year to play one more year.
These four players will all be a big piece to how far the Rebirds go in the NCAA Tournament in the 2018-19 season.
These players have bonded very well over the last couple of years.

SR-Phil Fayne
SR-Keyshawn Evans
SR-William Tinsley
SR-David N'diaye

This player's Father graduated from Illinois State University and I believe he will want to follow in his footsteps.
This player has really started to buy in to Coach Mullers coaching.
This player has really started to bond well with the above mentioned players (as shown by his tweet about Key not making all-MVC)
This player knows the potential for what this team can accomplish next season if all the seniors return, and the addition of the next two players to be mentioned.

Milik Yarbrough

These two players have transfered here and I see know reason why they would be leaving after sitting out a year here.
These two players will be very instrumental in the success of the Redbirds historic season in 2018-19
One of these players will be a starter next season & the other will see significant playing time off the bench:

JR-Zach Copeland
SO-Matt Chastain

This player will be a vital piece for the Redbirds to have a bench that will be very important to the Redbirds success in 2018-19.
This player will probably have his minutes reduces next season due to the addition of Zach Copeland.

JR-Madison Williams

If the above eight players return next season & are healthy, Illinois State basketball is going to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament.

These two players are a vital part of Redbird basketball starting the 2019-20 season
These two players will probably have limited minutes next season due to the depth of the team. (although I can see many blowouts next season that could allow them much needed experience going into the 2019-20 season):

SO-Elijah Clarance
SO-Taylor Bruninga

These two players will be Freshman next season & I see no reason that they will back out of their LOI:
These two players will be a vital part of Redbird basketball starting the 2019-20 season.

FR-Demontay Dixon
FR-Rey Idowu

These three players will probably have limited playing time, if any at all in 2018-19
These three players will need to decide if they want to sit on the bench next year and get some playing time in 2019-20, or Transfer.

JR-Matt Hein (could transfer to the right school where he could possibly be a starter for two years after a RS year)
SO-Christine Romine (I have no clue as to what his situation is)
SO-Isaac Gassman (probably stay on as a walk-on)

I have high hopes for 2018-19 Redbird Basketball. But like many longtime Redbird fans, I have to proceed with caution. Our hearts have been broken many times in the last 20 years:

1998-99 Thought our starting lineup was going to be:
Rico Hill
Tarise Bryson
L. D. Murdock
Sean Riley
Leroy Watkins
Victor Williams
We were going back to the NCAA Tournament again for sure. But Rico opted for the NBA draft.

1999-2000 Thought our lineup would be:
Tarise Bryson
L.D. Murdock
Sean Riley
Victor Williams
Shawn Jeppson
Looked like another year of going to the NCAA Tournament. But Sean Riley opted to forego his last season of eligibility to enter Med school & Victor Williams transferred to Oklahoma State.

2001-02 TARISE BRYSON (NUFF SAID)
2002-03 NO TARISE BRYSON (THANKS NCAA)
2004-05 Marcus Arnold transfers to that school East of Bloomington/Normal to sit on the bench for two seasons (preparing for the NBA)

Eric Bush
Justin Dentman

2012-13 season after beating Mississippi State in the NIT and a returning starting line up:
Nic Moore
Jackie Carmichael
Tyler Brown
Jon Ekey
Jonathon Wilkins
We would again make the NCAA Tournament, NOT! Nic follows Jank to SMU

2014-15 Redbird basketball was looking up again.
Daishon Knight
DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell
Reggie Lynch
Paris Lee
Bobby Hunter
Mikyle McIntosh
Deontae Hawkins
NCAA tournament hopes again. But Reggie takes his disgusting self to Minnesota, leaving the Birds with no legitimate center.

2016-17 Snubbed by NCAA committee after 17-1 MVC Season. One Mikyle McIntosh dumb (actually horrible call by ref)foul away from the NIT quarter-finals and a long awaited home match against the cryin' Illini.

2017-18 McIntosh & Hawkin transfer, numerous injuries.
How will this chapter in Redbird basketball end?

Redbirdsoxfan, I agree about MY. I don't know why anybody is talking about him leaving now, anyway.

Good rest of your post. Great points.

I think the anxiety about Milik stems from a simple question:

When was the last time an ISU player eligible for grad transfer and also good enough to play for a bigger program DID NOT take it?

Hawkins, Mccintosh, Zeisloft, Ekey...
