Definitely some bias here, but that's okay.

Richardson gets defensive player of the year, and Krutwig gets FOY.

None of these come at a surprise to me. I thought Church would get DPOY over Richardson but not disagreeing with the voting.

I thought Johnson for DPOY because of his league-leading rebounding, agree with everything else. Its just clear there was an intention to ensure the top team in the conference took home the most hardware. No sour grapes here, just making an observation.

I would rather see the hardware that matters go home to Normal on Sunday.

Oh I agree that there was a lil Loyola bias.

Except for Jason Daisy and Eldon Miller the POY/COY has traditionally gone to the top team. Not a lot of exceptions

I actually think this is about right. Congrats to MY on Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Valley!

You can't break an all time program record for turnovers and win POY, but the fact that you can win NOY and be in the POY discussion with that says A LOT about your game! Clean it up in St. Louis and win the whole thing.

Here are my predictions from a few weeks ago.

Custer resurrected Loyola. As someone mentioned, their W-L record with and without him is astonishing.

Other awards:
Newcomer of the Year- Milik Yarbrough
Freshman of the Year: Cameron Krutwig (Tywhon Pickford close second)
Most Improved: Phil Fayne or Keyshawn Evans (Bias comes into play with this pick. Matt Hein also could be considered, though his numbers have dropped recently.)
Defensive Player of the Year: Alize Johnson. You can't look past those 12 boards per gam.
Sixth man: If Graham Woodward is eligible, I'll take him.
COY: If Drake finishes second, Niko, if SIU does, then Barry.

Thought for sure you'd have Matt Hein as Sixth Man.

Unfortunately, I think he started too many games to be considered a 6th man candidate.

Good point . . . . . . . I think.

Keyshawn is 5th in scoring in the conference, 8th in assists, 4th in 3pt %, 2nd in 3 pointers made, has the 5th best assist to TO ratio, and 12th in min played, and that's not good enough to even land on the third team? I hope this is bulletin board for Key.

Agree. Major chip on the shoulder time!

I guess only one member of the media selected Loyola to win the conference during preseason prognostications.

I think Moser should be COY.

I agree . . . but look at who won in 2016 . . . could he get the nod again this year? Sometimes the over-achiever gets the nod, though we could say Loyola over-achieved this year, too.

The Ramblers came together the fastest and put together the best conference season. And COY Porter and his team deserve credit.

Had the Redbirds not had the injuries, methinks it would have been 2-team race. Coach Dan and the Birds deserve credit for battling through.

Make no mistake, we have the talent to get them this weekend.

Keyshawn takes over games when he's pissed. Get ready for a show this weekend...

I know there has been a lot of thoughts about Milik transferring out at the end of the year. Lately though he seems completely different. It looks like he has bought in. I fully expect him to declare for the draft and then come back with feedback for a stellar senior year. Not sure where he stands academically but he would have to graduate to transfer again.

Valpo's beat writer admitted on twitter that he forgot about Key when voting. Go easy on him, though; he's new here and Recon and I have otherwise dubbed him an honorary Redbird because he ate calzones and chatted us up after the Valpo game.
