Pretty much my thoughts when I see all the posts on here telling our athletic director what he needs/needed to do!
What about your post earlier where you said the AD should have kept the firing of Muller under wraps until the end of the season? You can’t even keep up with your own contradictions.

The difference is that I’m not telling Dan what to do, only giving my thoughts on what I see as being a good route for him to succeed. It is just my opinion. In the case of the childish, temper tantrum throwing one’s on this board, which were demanding and demanding and demanding that Dan be fired immediately.

I don’t think he’s whining, but I do think he had a point. Could have kept it confidential until season was over. He was asked a question and answered it honestly. He’s moving on, and we’re moving on.
I guess Brennan saw it different. That’s all that matters. Muller had his hand held long enough.

And neither you or I know that if Kyle had it to do over again, he would do it the same. And unless you or I have asked him than neither of us know. Can only speculate. And I would bet that there are quite a few AD’s out there that may have handled it differently.

Great interview, still a cool dude. Positive things to say about the AD and new coach... pretty gracious for a guy we just fired. Go you Redbirds! Excited for the new era.
Not a Dan fan, or a hater. But you know, easier to be gracious when you get a year's salary and not have to go to work.

I wish him the best, sorry it didn't work out. He sounded much better to me on this interview than he ever sounded on an interview as coach. Maybe I didn't hear him often enough.

Excellent interview. I personally believe letting Dan go early was a smart move by Brennan to get an early jump
on screening for candidates. If your on board with the Pedon hire, don't you think there is a very strong possibility
that our new coach could/would have been contacted and interested in another location??

This is a point that I think is missed. Brennan said that Pedon was on his list but was crossed off early after hearing some of the jobs he had passed on. Once Brennan learned of Pedons interest, they moved quickly. The timing of the Muller decision allowed the Birds to have first dibs on most candidates before the carousel really got hopping.

Yeah, maybe in a perfect world, Brennan informs Muller 3 weeks ago and keeps it quiet until the end of the season. What are the odds in a community the size of BN, it would actually be kept a secret?

At first I wondered why they didn’t keep Muller’s 30-day notice private, but I’ve come to understand why they made it public right away.

We’re a public institution, so anything put in writing - as a 30-day notice would have to be, I’d imagine - is subject to a FOIA request. ISU could drag its feet or redact sensitive info, but it wouldn’t be hard for an armchair journalist to piece together that Muller had been given notice.

Assuming word got out had AD Brennan not made it public, many here - and elsewhere - would have referred to it as a cover-up. At which point Muller would have likely resigned to avoid further distraction anyway.

Come on people, it isn't the "norm", but letting the coach go before the end of the season isn't all that unusual. Coaches even resign before the end of the season some times - seen it happen twice here at Wisconsin, Dick Bennett and Bo Ryan both retired mid-season. Louisville did it this year, right? I'm sure we could dig up many more examples.

Muller could have coached through the end of the season and it couldn't have been much more of a distraction than how it ended, especially with him sitting courtside in St. Louis. "How does it feel to be playing for a coach who's been canned?" "How does it feel to be playing in front of your coach who was canned a couple weeks ago sitting at the media table?" The team played for Brian Jones, and guess what - HE was freakin' canned too!!

Just sayin' . . . .
