As mentioned by a few, with Annexstad ut, if was definitely brains not just huge stones to go for 2. So happy for all involved. Very entertaining game. Was especially cool to see how jacked Spack was encouraging the review. even those with the pitchforks and torches hopefully took a sec to smile jus a little on a pretty cool victory.

Yeah turns out you were right! 🫣🖐🤷🤸‍♂️👊👊👊👊👊👊🖕.

I realize you probably don't deserve the middle finger and I'm an arsehole for throwing that in there. While I'd like to see some change in FB program, I'm sick of your nonstop bitching. GO BIRDS!!

PS. You owe me one for when I do something dumb on the forum...I'm sure, in the near future.

Spack was not too optimistic on Zack's knee. Looks like Tommy and the Valpo transfer may get the prove whether the QB portal is wide open.

Well, that was quite the interesting game. Offense was good in the first and fourth quarters - kind of sputtered in the middle, getting two FGs. Well, about freaking time on getting two important calls correct!!!! Thank Goodness we went for on 4th down multiple times - in fact 6 for 6!!!! Like the Sarge said - can it be fourth down every play? ha, ha, ha.

Victory is Sweet, Sweet, Sweet!!!! Famous words - there is still a chance. However, small it is - there is still a chance.

Team needed to learn how to win on the road and win a close one.

Hard for me to be unbiased. Usually a bad officiating crew makes an equal number of mistakes re both teams. Today all the bad calls seemed to go against us. It took forever for the replay crew to correct the spot on the 4th down play; same w the 2 point conversion.

It seems there have been more posts lately about Spack’s future than about the team. Please don’t accuse me of “drinking the kool-aid,” or seeing everything through rose colored glasses, but it’s clear to me that no one has done more for Redbird football than Brock Spack. I hope we all will focus more on our team and less about the Coach’s future.

yep .. but not until someone has the courage to say it, does it guarantee a low scoring game !!
o_O
I'm sensing a bit of an offensive shootout this week. Massey has us #31 against #55 SOS, and has 3-5 MoST #29 against notably tougher #14 SOS. Our avg score is 32-20, while MoST is 30-31 .. again playing a tougher SOS.

But here's where we have some room for optimism ... their run offense and run defense are below average to weak. And while their pass offense is very good, their pass defense is average at best.

We have the big problems defensively playing against teams that can run and pass, though eventually settling down 2nd half. So our defense should be able to focus more against their pass game, we might do ok getting stops defensively this week. That said, they're pass game is very strong .. and we still have huge breakdowns in coverage at times.

So if I were a betting man, I would bet the over on 55.5 ... great weather will favor both pass games. And spread infers a 29-27 type game. I think both teams could see the 30's. So I like my Redbirds to win a game like 35-31. Annexstad is getting so much more comfortable slinging it .. I just wish we did a little less spreading wide at times. We depend too much on YAC doing that ... though he did find Gandy (11 catches a lot last week. Plus we now have Kasper back. But our WRs are only getting <=10 yds/catch, just like our TE. I wish we would stretch the field long a little more than we do. ... with more mid level passes.

I think we were lucky this went our way.

I agree that this could have gone the other way but I'll admit that I'm biased and I'll argue that the officials made the correct call.

Here's the definition of a catch -

To catch a ball means that a player:

  1. Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and
  2. Touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then
  3. Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc., and
"Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him perform an act common to the game." You hear some announcers say that the receiver needs to catch the ball and then make a football move to establish possession. I submit that my client Wenkers Wright did just that. He caught the ball at the two-yard line. He turned his body and headed into the endzone - football move. Not knowing exactly where he was he deliberately held the ball out in front of him. He lost control of the ball at that point but he had already -
A) broken the plane of the endzone B) traveled 3 yards with the football while making a football move
C) controlled the ball a yard deep into the endzone. 2 pts. REDBIRDS!!!!!! The defense rests.

Spack apparently has been reading this board clamoring that we should go for it more on 4th downs.
That and he knew season was over for sure with a loss.

But slim got a lot slimmer with Annexstad out.

I'm glad we won. I do think he needed another 1/2 - 1 step more though for possesion.
