We were very fortune this game. In a rematch there is no way we get away with throwing up last second trash and theres no way Custer misses that many wide open shots.

I was watching the game and I agree it would have been much closer if loyola was on their game. Credit isu though for swarming krutwig inside and making them sweat. When you make them sweat things go well. I counted at least 3 times the guy at the top of the key lobbed it inside to krutwig and they lobbed it right out of bounds. That's just sloppy. Looked like the Redbirds at the beginning of the year. Also, like the Redbirds at the beginning of the year loyola couldn't hit sand if they fell off a camel last night from outside. Fayne did a great job finishing and second chance points helped out too.

I agree I would pay more to get that many students every game. Even though it was probably only 70% full it was a great atmosohere.

How are they going to double the amount of students next season considering they are on both ends?

Agree completely.
That said I thought we played our best of the season in the 2nd part of the first half. Our defense was overall good and we made some big shots when we needed to. Covered their big man well.
However Loyola did not have a good game. They moved the ball much better than us and were more in control on both ends of the court. And we collapsed somewhat at the end.
We have some work to do if we expect to win the tournament.
But overall thrilled with this result.
On a side note; how did the refs not T up Moser?

Good win! Unlikely to play as well the second half when you shoot 58% from the floor and 54% from three. Loyola made a run first half and we responded. They
Got it down to 5 second half and we responded. We won on Fayne’s worst night all year. But other guys stepped up. Gassman has a nice game. Chastain continues to do the dirty work and ya gotta love it. But I said a couple of weeks ago Key was the missing link. He’s got his confidence back and we are a way better team than we were other than the PU game. Oh yea made out FTs in crunch time too. Nice win
:text-+1:
Key has been the key to us turning the corner.

Porter gave DM a big coaching compliment on how he's handled Keyshawn this year. With Key struggling so badly with his shot, most coaches wouldn't have played him as much. He said how Dan didn't let him lose confidence and kept putting him out there until he finally got it all back, even though it killed us in a lot of games earlier in the year.
Well, Dan and Porter are certainly smarter in this case, than all the posters on here calling for reduced PT, or to prohibit Evans from shooting.

Among the many great Redbird plays last night, Copeland literally breaking his defender's ankles stood out in the second half. Ranks right up there with Ransom's pick and Carmichael's kick.

Literally? Who’s all in a cast today for the Ramblers? Like our chances even more in St. Louis now.

Looking at the game thru ricohill and gobirds72's eyes, our big lead started to disappear in the second half when the tv camera caught a glance of Hein looking into the huddle during a Redbird timeout.

No coincidence our offense looks more dangerous with shooters on the floor! If you had your way we would have five walk on’s out there on the floor! 😉

Big win on national TV for first place in the Valley and a bigger opportunity to extend our brand to new fans. Fun night!

Muller deserves high praise for much of what happened last night. The team completely neutralized Krutwig on offense, and I would argue that we outhustled Loyola for about 35 of the 40 minutes. The effort on the glass and underneath was the best it's been all season. Our coaching staff's delivery of pizza and personal invitations to student groups helped make it look and sound about as good as I've heard RBA in awhile, at least through the TV...

Yarborough is significantly more composed on both ends of the floor than earlier in the year. That's your MVC POY. Krutwig is good at what he does, but MY consistently finds ways to get his points and assists no matter what the defense throws at him. I feel like the award will go to the player that comes from the team that wins the league.

Because I've got Super Bowl food to start cooking, here's my highlight reel from last night:

Copeland breaking that kid's ankles. Keyshawn's performance on the court, along with his post-game exchange with Dick Leudke. Incredibly classy young man. Madison Williams sharing in on the fun from the bench. Idowu holding his own. Chastain taking charges. Boogie's putback dunk. Fayne's rebounding in the first half. Living vicariously through #RedbirdTwitter's pregame exploits.

Revenge time for that Valpo miracle shot on Tuesday. Birds by 15. Let's hope those students had fun and come back!

1) The student section made that a great atmosphere. Their enthusiasm prompted everyone else in the arena to be louder and get up more. The students are needed for ISU to have an atmosphere like that again.

2) I loved the job ISU did defensively, especially when Milik was guarding Krutwig constantly denying him the ball. ISU worked extremely hard on defense which made Loyola have to work harder than normal on offense. I think many of the missed threes at the end of the game were from tired legs that resulted from our good defense to start the game.

I'd like a butt in the seat not haggle over $5 from a college kid.

Those extra kids in the seats makes a huge difference. It creates an atmosphere that was lacking. If you get that right I believe more paying customers will come. We got plenty of extra seats so let the students in for free! Anybody know how much money that Red Alert pass even raises? It's only like 50 bucks for those who want one. To be honest, I was surprised that many students requested the free tickets. I figured those who really wanted to go would've had bought a pass. So basically, the student cost was more prohibitive than I first thought. To me they can charge me a little more on my season tickets if they start letting students in for free. It's worth it. The games will be more enjoyable. I love seeing the arena packed, cause that helps us win games.

That's been my concern/gripe ever since I heard that Red Alert is no longer "governed", at least not like it used to be when it was part of the AD (someone correct me if my details are confused there, but I think it's something like this now?) Anyway, the membership is $50 for the whole year for ALL SPORTS. So even just going to football and hoops games makes the thing pay for itself. Plus VB, baseball, softball, soccer, gymnastics---plenty of events year round to get every penny out of that membership. But I digress.

If student tix are $5, that's an issue IMHO. Believe me, most college kids can find a hell of a lot of other things to spend that money on. Face it, if a student is down to his last $5, is he going to buy a ticket to a hoops game or use it for a house party? If they bought that Red Alert membership back in August though, they can do both :geek: The AD did an awesome push for this game and the donors were extremely generous buying those student tix. It's kind of crappy that a game with that many narratives (battle for 1st, national TV, honoring Leudke, Final Four opponent whose coach was a former coach here, budding rivalry, etc etc) had to be pushed so hard around campus but literally that's what it takes to get students' attention these days if you aren't Duke.

Honoring Leudke is suppose to draw students to a game? Likely only a few have recently heard of him and even those students likely have listened to very few games called by him. The elder Redbird fans are the ones that appreciate Leudke.

Redbirds played better than Loyola was the difference. However Loyola played poorly especially shooting the ball. Redbirds played a solid game but i would not say they played nearly as well as their prior game or that they are capable of playing. In the end a big W .

Espn announcers said that towards the end of the game. Of course they aren’t haters or biased either.
