He already proved himself a solid bench player this last season.

Considering the results in terms of shooting pct, 3 pt shooting pct, ball handling, rebounds per minute, turnovers, assist/turnover ration, etc. I would take it you are advocating to keep Gassman on scholarship and playing more than Hein? If you feel Hein is a "solid bench player," then you have to advocate giving more time to a player who is more productive and has less time with the program, correct? You'd want to make sure to keep a more productive bench player happy, right?

I am not advocating to cut Hein. However, I will not pretend the results are there for the 2-scholarship package deal to have been worth it. That is silly to try and do. My hope is we play the best players next year. I see Jefferson and Copeland eating a lot of guard minutes. I see Tinsley being more consistent and earning more minutes. My hope is that all players improve, including Hein. I can't advocate playing him above players though if we have players who deliver better results across the board. I could be wrong and Jefferson, Copeland, and Tinsley could all flop. We shall see what happens next year.

It’s on the old board. I remember you ragging on Paris more than once and spouting off about how ISU needs a real point guard.

Don’t reply to this with feigned denial. You did do this dude.
So it’s ragging to ask that a point guard have better than a 1.2 assist to turnover ratio? I’ll stand by that criticism. We did need a better point guard than the freshman PLee, and he turned into one.

So now you admit to evidence of ragging even though your implication was that you are pure of such a thing.

You are a piece of work. A negative one at that.
Ragging by your definition, not mine.

Logic isn't your strong suit, is it? I believe you are the one touting what you've said are facts and reality. And what in the hell does Andy Strandmark have to do with this discussion? I think that's a step further into what I perceive to be a sketchy view of reality.

You just respond with insults, not "facts".

I didn't call them facts.

I'm on record as saying the David/Hein 2-fer was worth a shot. It's a gamble, you're gonna miss sometimes. Who knows what David would have brought even this year had he been healthy last year and this? Not to mention next year.

By the same token, Yarbrough was worth a gamble, but if you talked to SLU fans 2 years ago, they would have said "good luck fellas." They knew his potential, and his immaturity. A number of fans on their message board admitted that if Muller could "get to him," he would be a helluva get. But they were far from confident that would happen, and suggested he could easily be a Redbird cancer.

So bully for Muller for gambling in both cases. And bully for coaching Yarbrough into the player SLU would have dearly loved to have, but couldn't get through to him.

Isn't the difference MY had proven D1 success on the court, with a 1 scholarship investment, versus an unproven Ndiaye where we will have invested (likely) 8 scholarship years for 3 years of Ndiaye and 4 years of Hein on the court. Think about that investment versus the results. I would say that is a very big investment for a very big risk that has led to a negative ROI.

If MY didn't work out and stays for the rest, we'd have one scholarship tied up. With Ndiaye leaving, we are still, at this point, giving two years to Hein.

So ****ing fed up with this, Hein showed up and played his ass off and yall still bash him. He's on the team, get over it, if you can't support your own teams' players don't wonder why other recruits won't take a chance to come here.
So ****ing fed up with the ****ing language in this ****ing thread. Clean up the ****ing profanity right ****ing now.

I look at the Hein-Ndiaye package deal as a success based on a number of factors.

First of all, they were both great student athletes and teammates who did things the right way. They were not be best players, but they were no where near the problem. You can win championships with guys like them on your roster. Most teams go about 8 deep. Why does all 12 players have to be a great on-court contributer? You need the Rob Gibbons and Kenneth Pearsons of the world. Part of being a good teammate is making your teammates better by doing things the right way, and being positive. Anyone who doesn't understand that has likely never been a coach or been in a leadership position. If we were only given 8 or 9 scholarships, I get it - but we are allotted many more than how deep we go.

Hein has done more to advance this program than many of the talented players who had a bad attitude, or who left with a few years of eligibility left.

Both were key contributors in games, both were not detrimental to the team. ROI in these terms is waaay to objective and I'm going to base it on the players we had, not some hypothetical scenario where we could have got a different recruit.

Besides, would we even have this stupid conversation if they won that last game?

If not playing Romine for a small part of last season can get us three years instead of two then that is a win for the team.

+1...👍
Unless he sucks.

If he sucks then he wouldn't have helped last year anyway. So the way I see it is better to support him than to rail on him.

We’re loaded at the solid bench player position.

That’s why we won’t make the tournament! We have tons of bench warmers! We need Basketball players!

It's been one whole season since there were lots of 'Basketball Players'! Next year there will be more.

Well you guys can't seem to stay on topic and this has just gone off the rails.

The reason I ask for it is because there are A LOT of people who don't post and come here looking for information. When they get into a thread about David leaving and get 12 pages of whatever is even happening in this thread it can be frustrating and they leave.
