Would they really grant that extra year already? I always thought it was done after the fifth year.

And I believe Dan said as much, that it's not time to seek an extra year yet. I believe they have to wait until he is at or near the end of his eligibility.

What a stupid system the NCAA has set up with the waivers. The fact that he has to wait until after his "senior" year to see if he can get another year of eligibility really puts teams behind the 8 ball in terms of recruiting. What difference does it make if they grant it now or in 2 years? Just another example of mid-majors being at a greater disadvantage than high majors as we don't have many players leaving early for the draft. I guarantee if it impacted high majors more than mid-majors this policy would be changed in 2 seconds.

NCAA will approve another season if he is transferring to a P5 to use it.

Are there examples of anybody being granted a 5th year, where a redshirt was used after an injury redshirt? Unless the rules have changed, the injury redshirt has to come second.

my grandmother can get a 6th year at this point. its a lot more relaxed from the Bryson days. they just hand out 6th years now.

They'd probably approve that now, so we can get him ready for a P5 team.

I can't find anything that supports this.
12.8.1.5.1 Waiver Criteria. A waiver of the five-year period of eligibility is designed to provide a studentathlete
with the opportunity to participate in four seasons of intercollegiate competition within a five-year
period. This waiver may be granted, based upon objective evidence, for reasons that are beyond the control of the student-athlete or the institution, which deprive the student-athlete of the opportunity to participate
for more than one season in his or her sport within the five-year period. The Committee on Student-Athlete
Reinstatement reserves the right to review requests that do not meet the more-than-one-year criteria detailed

2015-16 Division I – April
12

And from may 2018
Last month the NCAA Division I Council voted to allow a sixth year to players who were redshirted their first season on campus and later missed another year because of injuries. The change was proposed by the Sun Belt Conference.

Previously, NCAA bylaw 12.8.1.5.1 tended to favor only players who had missed two seasons because of injury, or due to circumstances beyond an athlete's control.

Certainly sounds possible based on the last line of the bylaw, but I think it would be a new precedent.

Look out! She's going to be Muller's grad transfer next season!
