When was the last time a player on our team dunked?

In the open court, our guys dunk. We used to run back door alley-oop plays for dunks. In a halfcourt setting or off an offensive rebound our guys seldom dunk or go strong to the basket. Even guys like Jackie, Lynch, Phil, etc would do a fade away instead. I think over the last several years we were more likely to see offensive improvement from our guards than our bigs. Just one of my observations for quite some time now.

Sat right behind the bench on Saturday. Don't know much about basketball. I can say Taylor just looked slow in the defensive rotation, I think Dan wants him to play, but doesn't want him to look bad, so that's why he only played a few min (maybe legs aren't back, maybe never will be back). Rey while he did some nice things, also was missing assignments, I could hear multiple coaches telling him he's out of position, also had that lost look sometimes. Saw Dan mention to one of the assistants after a foul by Ndiaye, does he want to foul out. Not sure as to why he got up in Reeves grill with the kids family likely sitting the 3 rows in front of me. And I think with about 2/3 min left in First Half, Dan yelling 'We Have To Finish!' at everyone, (likely because we had just missed 2/3 shots again, from with in 2 ft, you know the kind 6'9 guys should go up and slam or force the ref to call a foul. Actually we wouldn't be half bad if we did finish those, I think I counted at least 5 or 6, and that would have made it close. Best was when I think Dan broke the clip board in the huddle going ape $hit.
Not sure if this year is learning and they as a team will get better. Not sure if Dan's style of coaching is getting through to these kids, or maybe these kids just aren't that good. Also not sure how this gym, which is likely smaller then my Son's High School Gym, is MVC eligible, but I will say, to sit 4 rows behind the bench at $12 a seat, I am happy Valpo is in our league. Where else can you sniff a lower bowl seat 4 rows from the bench, the day before the game, all for only $12? Hell I bought an extra seat just for my jacket. Also my son says the guy in the gray jacket (which was Dan) has perfected that disappointment face, you know the ones parents get when you just have no words left to offer, because there's only so many times you can say the same thing over and over and over.

Any suggestions as to what to do Friday and Saturday in St. Louis after I get my free stuff at the tournament? I fully expect only to care about one game, and that will be on Thursday.

(and yes that one Valpo player who had Hillsman in the crosswing chicken hook, did mouth something towards Hillsman after he made a basket and Hillsman was in detention)

Great perspective!! I had planned on going to this game, but decided it wasn't worth it. I saw Dan yelling at his assistants on the TV broadcast. Assumed he was having a meltdown. Wish I could have been there to see him break the clipboard.

Seems like those of us on the board that have called him Psycho Dan are correct...when you can't coach just yell a lot. Great stuff.

FWIW, I have a reliable source who told me Krzyzewski (sp?) is psycho in practice.

I don't have a problem with coaches being tough and demanding. The problem with Dan is he does it because he can't coach. It's his way of trying to show he knows what he is doing.

I bet we have less than 10 dunks this entire season. We have about 4 players that have any type vertical leaping ability and 2 are some of our smaller guards.

I recall Fisher dunking in the Evansville or SIU game. Rey is about 50% on his dunks.

Here is the +/- for Valpo game.
As I said earlier, I just don't get that the starting lineup was +8 and was only in the first 4:15 and the first 2:23 of the second half for 6:38 total. Ndiaye didn't see the floor in the last 12 minutes of game and he did not foul out, only had 3 PF.

ISU Valpo +/-

Ndiaye +3 14
Hillsman -2 28
Idowu -2 10

You are right on all of that. I was just making the point that when we have had bigs that can dunk, they haven't done that very often.

that was almost unbelievable. halfway thru the comeback it became inevitable, but it was still hard to process.

6’3” Freeman tips it in over 6’9” Idowu to cut it to one?!
This team is softer than a cone of Dairy Queen sitting in the July sun.

Words can no longer describe the ineptitude and lack of coaching of this team anymore. You literally cannot make this sh!@ up anymore. Not even in a movie.

But it’s Dan’s fault the Birds lost.

Almost no excuse for losing a 17 point lead at home against a mediocre team, no matter how poorly you have been playing. Valpo is not Duke. I cannot recall any ISU program losing nearly as many games after having double digit leads as has happened during Muller's tenure, no matter the personnel on the floor.

Yes, it is. He can't teach players not to lose a 17 point lead. No doubt he made some mistakes in the second half.

All you have to do is watch the final 48 seconds of the game (when we were up one with ball) to see how poorly this team is coached.

First we hold the ball until 10 seconds left on shot clock before we even attempt to run a play which there was nothing to lead me to believe there was a play Then when we were down by 1 with 14 seconds we again have nothing. Even with 1.5 seconds we have nothing but a heave which then with 0.6 we have no screen or anything (game ends on block).

Truly pathetic and I pray that someone buys out this guy and Lyons gets his walking papers too.
