Kyle Keller is the coach I want. Yes, not Yak. Shocking, I know. He has more of a history. You'll notice he had some wins stripped. It should be heavily noted that was a university error across ALL sports (a lot of their sports had wins stripped) and not a Kyle Keller error. He runs a clean program and is damn good. His actually record at SFA before vacated wins is 102-45 (.694)

The plane crash... yeah horrible, unfortunate and many great, smart valuable people lost their lives. Truly a tragic moment.

However it’s been 6 years now. Dan and the athletic department has had plenty of time to recover and rebuild. This is no longer an excuse for the programs failures.
I agree. It shouldn't be an excuse. My point was to explain that Lyons was not a fundraising guy--as the previous poster had thought--and why he was AD as long as he was. But you go ahead and read it as "Bird Friend's testament of how great Larry was" cuz that's how you spin your narratives.

I wanted to say the same thing, but didn’t want to sound like a jerk. Trust me- we have all experienced a loss of a loved one and each handle it different. That shouldn’t be an excuse for Dan’s failures as a coach!
Wanna show me where I said the plane crash was an excuse for "Dan's failures as a coach"?

Know what. Never mind. I don't really care about your thoughts . . .

Paraphrasing Ben Affleck in Good Will Hunting...

“You know what the best part of my day is? For about ten seconds when I wake up and then open the Redbirdfan.net site, ‘cause I think maybe I’ll see the link that says Muller is no longer the ISU Coach. No see ya later, no nothing. He’s just gone. I don’t much, but I know that.”

I don't think Brennan would have taken the job knowing his hands were tied behind his back - this was a timed hire so the new President wouldn't have to take the heat - the call will be made before Dietz leaves and the new hire will be on Brennan.

So you're okay with Dietz having veto power over any decisions about coaches until then? (Still being an advocate . . . )
Dietz helped run the athletic program (no support of a football practice facility and Men’s basketball/allowing the Muller contract extension) into the ground with his puppet Lyons. I don’t want him making any more decisions related to athletics.

He hired the new AD to do his job. If Muller isn’t fired by Monday we will know we have Lyons 2.0.

Why would we fire Muller after winning the conference tournament?

In all seriousness he deserves to be fired and deserved to be fired a while ago, but with three more years left on his contract ISU/boosters will not spend the money to get rid of him.

I don't know that we have enough basketball boosters to generate the money to fire Muller...thanks to Muller's managing of the program. I don't really think it's up to the fans to find the money. Were we surveyed on whether Muller should get a new seven-year deal? If you hire the right coach after Muller...you won't have to worry about the booster's money. If Loyola can win...why can't we?

I don't think it is fair to label the new AD as bad if he doesn't have the money to fire Muller on Monday. I'm certainly not going to blame the new AD for being hamstrung by a bad deal from the old AD.

I agree. However, I'm sure if he had a stud coach ready to step in...he could find the money. I'm sure it won't be easy to swallow the cash- but sometimes you have to sacrafice.

My opinion would be that if there was a stud coach already on deck, that info likely gets "leaked" to the boosters so that they help contribute money, and ISU wouldn't cover the whole burden. That said, I think would be hard to line up a stud without a guaranteed open position, and it would be hard to free up the position without money

With the total of 1.5 million the amount needed to buy Dan out, I find it highly unlikely we move on after the year. I would be pleasantly surprised if we did, but I'm not going to hold it against the AD if we don't.

Did you see what happened at U of Texas with their football position. They lined a guy up, then fired their coach, and hired the new guy. The firing/hiring happened in less than 24 hours.

If you think colleges don’t put feelers out until the coach is actually fired, then I think you may just be Larry Lyons!
