Even the Drake announcers said it was a foul AND why the hell did we have to listen to Drake guys for a home game anyway.

You referring to the tv crew?

Not drake guys. I watched the replay, the PBP guy thought a foul was called but was confused, don’t think they were saying it was clearly a foul. It is definitely not an arm being ripped off the ball.

I can’t blame refs for the loss, Drake gave ISU ample opportunity down the stretch with missed FTs and isu could not cash in unfortunately

That is a deflating loss because we had chances to win. Proud of the way the guys fought but damn. I want another shot at Drake.

Replay in the arena showed his shooting hand getting hit on the shot. Also, thought Lewis arm got held on the last possession. The 5th foul on Liam was bogus. You can blow calls during the game, but not 3 in OT. Also, agreed that Reeves should had drove the ball in the last play of regulation. He had his defender 1 on 1 and we were in the double bonus. Guarantee these officials won’t be calling games at ARCH Madness.

A few thoughts from the game

1. The black uniforms are sharp. They need to break those out a few times a year
2. I thought it was a well played game by both teams. As double duece showed on the screen shot of the ESPN gamecast and Dick pointed out on the post game show, neither team led by more than 4 points the last 36 minutes. It was like two boxers going toe to toe and delivering blows to each other. It was very entertaining
3. Defensive rebounding has been our Achilles, especially earlier in the year, and it reared its head again today. This along with a little help from men in stripes were ultimately cost us the game
4. We played matchup with Brodie bringing in Schmidt evertime except for a few minutes with Adou. I can see the same with UNI who can go small or bigger with Phyfee. I see coming in evertime he plays
5. I admire Sturtz. I watched him play as a Freshman at the MVC and he just does all of the little things. That being said .... how the hell does he get six bunnies in the first half. He is not going to burn you from the outside so don't overplay and guard against the cuts.
6. Liam and Ryan and others are going to have a real opportunity to develop over the 1/3 of the season. I thought they took another step in the right direction
7. I don't think they planned on planning Hemphill today. He warmed up but I don't think he was evenly full dressed. After we made our run and overcame the 14 - 4 deficit, I am pretty sure he went to the locker room. I saw him come out and the sweats were gone. They then put him in the game. Did anyone else see this?
8. 10 assists from Freeman is great. 1 for 8 shooting by Freeman not so great. Honestly I didn't realize he shot the ball 8 times until we read the boxscore after the game.
9. Emon scored 4 points in the first half buy conceded the alley oop to Hemphill ... I don't think he saw the floor after that. We need him to step up as the 5th guard

They originally called the Reeves play out of bounds on Drake. I believe Drake asked for a review. After they reviewed, they saw it was a foul, but last touched by Reeves. I would like to see refs have the authority to either a) leave the call as stands because they saw a foul happened or b) actually reward Reeves the free throws since Drake asked for the review.

I’m very high on Liam and his potential. If only the kid could put on some serious weight this offseason.

Went to bed mad and woke up mad. I thought Dan handled the no calls the best he could without getting fined. His postgame comments paraphrased were watching the video he pointed out the specific fouls but then said the refs did a great job. 🤪. What is even more egregious is with 9 seconds to go in regulation time same situation but Drake with the ball the refs didn’t hesitate to call a foul on us. Frankly over time refereeing tends to even out in a game BUT the timing of these no calls clearly influenced the outcome of the game. Just really feel bad for the kids.

P.S. I stand corrected on the broadcast crew. My ESPN feed was screed up and I missed the pregame and the first couple minutes of the game. I assumed Drake crew especially given the half time interview was about the Drake player. Didn’t expect that AT ISU.

There were positives. Liam showed what we hoped he could be. We got decent play out of our post players. But rebounds will continue to be an issue for us. We had two chances at the end of regulation to get a rebound with the lead and couldn’t do it.

I’m with you in theory, but we already had close to a half dozen stoppages for video review; replays killed the flow of overtime and the final two minutes of regulation.

Allowing replays on any potential fouls means even more reviews. Drill and reinforce officials on late-and-close protocol and hope for the best.

Our student section chanting “Ref You Suck!” probably didn’t help our cause, either…

This is what I meant yesterday about Kool and. The we almost had em attitude. Hey, fellas that game goes in the loss column still. All the ref excuses. Lol. It wasn't the refs guys. It was Dan showing he can't coach. Oh, it was Sy being out. Most teams have someone out. Next man up. All the excuses that show up after games. No, those go on Dan. He is the head coach in a top tier mid major conference.

Never said we got homered. Just pointed out the TIMING of the last two no calls. If you read my post I pointed out that generally it evens out.

No doubt, losing Sy is huge. We got 14 points from Liam. That’s more than enough to win this game. It’s always someone else fault when you lose. It can’t be that you choked and couldn’t get the job done. That’s the history behind Muller. His teams had choked away so many games- and it’s never the players until you mention the buck stops with Dan.

Ok- then we agree we lost and didn’t get the job done. Enough with the excuses! Because I’m sure the refs came into this game and targeted our team. Because we shit more free throws than they did. Lol

Who picks the chokers to come here. He obviously brings a lot here so that is on Dan.
