Crud. We have now lost our leading rebounder on a team that doesn't rebound very well.

Hoping Sy gets better soon.
First, as others have said- hoping that Sy has a quick and successful rehab. So the Birds are in dire need of rebounds, defense in the paint and pulling the opponents’ defense into the paint and opening up the 3 point shot. Schmitt will need to play a lot of minutes, but without two 4’s on the floor the majority of the time(remember the Birds lead conference in scoring-its the other end that needs help), I don’t see the lineup having the ability to challenge shots/rebound enough to make up the difference. My fear is that, like at the end of the EU game, the staff will want to put the infamous 4 guard offense on floor that we’ve been seeing since 2017.
Unfortunately,Birds don’t have 10 McDonalds All-Americans that are interchangeable, nor are we playing DII teams that don’t have real post/forward players. As the team has acknowledged by play the last several games that they know they need Reeves at the point to generate good looks, the 4 guard lineup creates a no-win situation with regard to guarding long 3’s & 4’s and getting rebounds. Even against undersized teams like Evansville or Drake, the guards don’t go to the boards and they will get killed on the high screen, the way they switch on everything. Here is hoping that this challenge creates the opportunity for the Birds to step back and look at what’s worked, what hasn’t and that we see real and necessary change, even if it’s not this suggestion, but I’m just looking at what has been successful this year and hoping that somehow the multitude of challenges this team has faced were there for a reason.

I guess it's a matter of playing your best 5 vs. best position combination. Abdou can do some some good things on the defensive end (if he's not being backed down) but the ball gets stuck in his hands and he lacks offensive awareness. Whatever the coaching staff decides I just hope the guys can make it work and be competitive.

This. Muller has shown over his career he puts out his best 5 available when adversity strikes, regardless of position. Obviously, Ryan will be getting more minutes but Emon along with Sissoko will probably see the biggest spike since they were the 9/10 guys. Abdou will get some more minutes. Andrews will get a chance but I wouldn't expect more that 3-5 minutes based on foul trouble.

Be ready, smaller lineups = more zone. If Broadie plays the way he did last year, it could be a long night.

more of a wing and a prayer "the troops rally around their fallen comrade" game than based on reality ... similar to the trek to Bucky-land

I’m interested to see what kind of growth schmitt can make. He has shown some flashes that he has the tools to be a solid big man for us. Hopefully with more playing time, he gets more comfortable and confident

Broadcast has been good so far….2 minutes of Cardinals-Cubs talk and apparently Abdou plays for Drake.

I hate Sturtz, I think he's been in school since I went there over 20+ years or he's like someone that always bothers me. Or I'm thinking of the guy from Creighton who got to play for like 8 years
