Porter didn’t make the same mistake he made when he came to ISU. Our program was in the tank and the league was good then. MVC sent 4 teams to the dance and 2 of them made the Sweet 16 in 2006. Porter only got 4 years here. Not trying to judge that situation but Porter knows that St Johns is a wreck and it’s no fun having people railing your ass as you try to build something. It almost impossible to recruit when you are in the tank.

It’s why I think HCDM gets to fulfill his contract here. Starting over with a new coach is a disaster unless you get lucky with a down conference or your team is stacked with talent. You will remember Jank inherited a pretty good group from Moser.

LU is a great fit for Moser and St Johns is nothing like it was in the 1980s.

I'm really surprised Moser got an offer from SJU. I was going to post how there was no way he'd be a serious candidate, and didn't get around to posting it, so what do I know? Will confess now.

Moser has been a head coach 15 years, including UALR, ISU and LU. He's been to the postseason 3 times in those 15 years, and only once to the NCAA's. He only reached 20 wins once in his first 6 years at LU. Booyah for him, he got to the final four, a dream. But a fluke maybe too?? Team on a run, "perfect" matchups, blah blah blah.

He could end up being the greatest thing since sliced bread, the Majerus connection turned him around (altho not so much the first 6 years). I'll wait to see.

As for SJU, those boosters and fans must really be pulling their hair out. Bad enough you bank on hiring a Midwest guy who's only been to the dance once in 15 years, but then he turns you down!! Kinda funny, the parallels between DePaul and SJU, big city former big dogs now on hard times. Not sure what they do now. Sure seems like there'd be some eastern guy, Big East type, alum maybe, who'd be dying to hook up there.

Iona's Tim Cluess has also pulled himself out of the St. John's race as well. I'd say this is looking more and more like a shit show every day.

As for Moser I think the final four run has gotten him quite a bit of street credit in the college basketball coaching market. I think if they can make the tourney in the next 2 or 3 years he'll get even more offers from lower P6 schools. That being said Moser loves LU, has a ton of connections to the state of Illinois, and doesnt really need money, so I dont see him leaving any time soon honestly.

Great listen and Mike Francesa don't belong in the same sentence.

Surprised you don't have to pay $5 to listen.

Quinn I don't disagree with your analysis regarding that show but...it is a great listen. The guest is their leading alumni in terms of wealth and influence. Coaches are turning them down because of glaring lack of confidence in the SJ's University administration.

:text-+1: SJU may be one of the toughest, if not the toughest, power conference coaching positions to step into. Seems like a lot of peeps are interested in kicking the tires and going for a test ride but that is about it. They need a NYC version of Sister Jean.
