Me too. At Loyola he can do whatever he wants for years with no pressure on him. He has already taken them to the mountain. At St. John's he will be under attack from the jump. If he doesn't get it done in 2-3 years he will bounced out and another guy will fill the vacancy. I suppose St. John's can pay him a boatload more than Loyola, but stranger things have happened.

Time will tell if this is a good move for Moser. The insanity of college coaching searches right now that Moser with one good 2 week stretch in March out of 15 years would get you that much money is nuts.

So you’re basically saying he won’t take the job (for likely a LOT more money), because maybe he’ll fail?
These guys are ultimate competitors. He’s gone. Bet on it.

Porter has built a solid/respectable program at Loyola which includes a team image that is desirable esp for the private universities. His track record at Loyola looks good although current administration should get credit for finally putting financial resources towards the basketball program. Loyola is not ND or Villanova image wise but it has a better image/is larger/better financed than a majority of the big east universities . A bit of a sleeping giant and moser success partially due to right place right time concept.
Will be interesting to see if loyola ups the ante to keep Moser. If Loyola does ante up the big bucks that is clear sign that the writing is on the wall for a loyola MVC exit....which university and athletic has stated privately to some ulumni/donors is their goal when the timing is right.

Yes, you are essentially the go-to school for New York players that want to stay home, but that is kind of a trash market for basketball. We talk about the cupboard being bare, they really really are there now. He would have AT LEAST two years of sub .500 seasons before his players could get their legs. By then, people might already be calling for his head.
I can see him staying at Loyola until that icebox they have in the paint graduates, then taking off. I can honestly see Northwestern throwing a similar offer at him in the next two years. That way he triples his pay, moves to a major conference and never has to move his family.
This has to be a facetious post. I am not certain but so much is far from reality...esp NY being a trash market
Redbirdwarrior said:And stop bringing up money. As has been noted here and many other places, Porter came INTO coaching loaded. The guy has been extremely comfortable financially his whole life. So some team offering a guy with 3 million in the bank an extra $250K to deal with extreme scrutiny in a new place does not make sense.
Now, if you had some coach who came from meager beginnings who was coaching in a cornfield somewhere get offered an extra 2 million over 4 years, he'd jump at it. I really don't think money is in the top 5 things Porter cares about when it comes to his next job.
