It would be a miracle if they win 20 games. They haven't showed improvement like in other seasons that makes us think there will be a late season run. I hope they make the NIT but it's more likely to 17-14 to 14-17 at this point. They're going to get eaten alive in the conference.

I dont think they will. Its largely because the conference is bad this year, but I dont think we'll be eaten alive. If I had to predict probably 10-8 in conference. We arent great right now, but no one in the league is really that much better.

My other thoughts from the game:

--Anyone know if Jefferson was hurt or was he in the dog house in the second half?

-- We look best when we feed Phil and play from inside out. When we just went with jumpers and 3s they took the lead back. We need to drive more and feed Phil in the post more.

--That said, guards, for the love of all that is holy stop throwing bounce passes at Phil and Rey's feet. Throw it up, hit them in the chest or up high so their momentum can carry them to the bucket.

--Speaking if Phil (and risking the jinx, blame me if he tanks after this) but he has been shooting FTs way, way better as of late. We should be getting him the ball way more.

--Defensively we played much better in the first half than we have all year, and the press worked.

--Still doing too much standing around when a shot goes up. All 5 guys need to go to the ball.

--Shout out to the Pres, who quietly played the best perimeter D of the guards down the stretch.

--Shout out to Copeland who played his tail off all game on both ends of the floor. Looked much better defensively.

--A win is a win

Last 10 minutes give or take we only gave up 7 points. At the 4ish mark Cleveland state had 70 points and ended up with 77. And for those that don’t like Dan the last inbound play at the end of regulation was spectacular!!!

Just getting home - even though the Birds won in OT - what an overall dismissal performance. I cannot figure out if our team is just basketball dumb or they are all just selfish.

Throwing passes in the lane with four defenders - what???? Shooting 3's out of sync - what???? Trying to create offense single-handed, one-on-five at times -no passes and shoot - what??? Then it was great showing highlights of the 1983 team - that was a real team. They ran offense and played tough defense - no matador treatment with those guys.

Very disappointed with the Birds - just sad.

Just got an update from the Redbird app that said we lost 74-73. Keeping up the good work from top to bottom in the program!

ESPN.com was showing the same thing for a time. FWIW
I stayed home to watch Da Bears. Gave my tickets away. I kept checking the score on ESPN & getting text updates. I received a text that we were tied with 3.3 sec to go & they were shooting 2 FT's. Checked the ESPN shortly after that- and it showed 75-73 "final" that we lost.
Then...I get a text that we are going to OT? I go back to ESPN and it changed to 75-75 with 0.0 time left?? How do those mistakes happen?
Glad ESPN was completely wrong-- and glad I watched DaBears clinch the division & send the packers packing.

It really only impacted the 6 of us who have the App and have set ISU basketball as a favorite on ESPN.

Broken record from a lot on here. Would you rather they had lost today? Either way wouldn't please you, maybe make you more smug if they lost. I guess it's cool to come on a fan board and bitch they didn't play as well as they were supposed to and beating a dead horse.

Oh well, to each there own.

Took my family downtown for the day. Didn’t even look at score once until few mins ago. Looks like I missed another garbage dump of a game.

This team is what it is. 2 talented 1on1 frontcourt players and a bunch of other very average to very below average players. That won’t be nearly enough.

We should all be very worried to see what IndianaSt and SIU guards will do to this ISU team. It could get very ugly.

I’ll be at the UCF game. Can’t wait to see what the first half line is. I bet it will look appetizing.

Had to rely on an 8 point comeback, Fayne making two free throws to tie it, and overtime to even attempt to beat Cleveland State. This is a very bad team. And, I mean Cleveland. I dont think you guys realize how bad the Redbirds are (maybe some of you are realizing it?) and around the 200th best team in the country and getting worse (250th or worse by end of season). I wouldn't be surprised if this team wins 6-8 games during the conference season and goes 14-17 or even worse. They haven't improved at all so no reason to believe they are going to make a late season push again.

If they finish under .500 (which is likely at this point in my opinion) I don't see how Dan keeps his job regardless of contract status.

Wait. Just 7 minutes before this you declared us the absolute worst? you might have even screamed it. How can the worst D1 team still have 50 spots to drop to 250 in a division with 347 participants? Your math hurts.

And leave your insensitive slurs off the board. It just displays your monumental ignorance.

Got lucky in this one. I'll take it. Huge free throws by Cope and Phil. I
4 man game, with each top two scoring 21+
Nice to see The Prez.come in and save the day

So maybe

Muller on MY step back hero shot 3 attempt:
However, Yarbrough attempted a stepback 3-pointer with about nine seconds left that missed.

"I would rather he drop-kick it and make it that way," said Muller. "He literally, specifically was told he's not allowed to shoot that exact shot he shot two days ago."

I agree on the lack of a lot of things, but they did not quit like many on this board did. Keep up the fight and hope we play better. I also agree after 2 exhibitions and 12 games it is hard to see it happening. However I will keep watching and rooting for the Redbirds!

The MVC is very weak. It is still there for the taking. GO BIRDS!

Wow. This is a pretty serious call-out. Muller must be hella frustrated with MY.

ISU 26-36 2Pt FG (72%)
ISU 7-28 3pt FG (25%)

When you have an obvious advantage and you still jack 28 3s, then you put on display your low level of basketball IQ (Which is a nice way of saying we play dumb).

Until this team stops taking dumb, selfish shots and demonstrates a willingness to pound teams into submission it will just be another average Illinois St team.

I think he is. I think he should be.

Or when Yarborough got the offensive rebound with like 40 seconds left and instead of resetting and running clock with a lead (which Muller was screaming to do) Yarborough drove back and charged the guy. Our b-ball IQ is insanely low.

Same with Evans. Anyone else see the one point where Dan yelled something down the bench, Key said something, Dan went down and confronted him and then got two inches from his face and confronted him again?

I want to scream at all the dumb things I keep seeing happen, I don’t know how Dan does it.
