Wow. This is a pretty serious call-out. Muller must be hella frustrated with MY.
I think he is. I think he should be.
Or when Yarborough got the offensive rebound with like 40 seconds left and instead of resetting and running clock with a lead (which Muller was screaming to do) Yarborough drove back and charged the guy. Our b-ball IQ is insanely low.
Same with Evans. Anyone else see the one point where Dan yelled something down the bench, Key said something, Dan went down and confronted him and then got two inches from his face and confronted him again?
I want to scream at all the dumb things I keep seeing happen, I don’t know how Dan does it.

But Fayne can't finish, right?

I hope they make the NIT but it's more likely to 17-14 to 14-17 at this point. They're going to get eaten alive in the conference.
I dont think they will. Its largely because the conference is bad this year, but I dont think we'll be eaten alive. If I had to predict probably 10-8 in conference. We arent great right now, but no one in the league is really that much better.
My other thoughts from the game:
--Anyone know if Jefferson was hurt or was he in the dog house in the second half?
-- We look best when we feed Phil and play from inside out. When we just went with jumpers and 3s they took the lead back. We need to drive more and feed Phil in the post more.
--That said, guards, for the love of all that is holy stop throwing bounce passes at Phil and Rey's feet. Throw it up, hit them in the chest or up high so their momentum can carry them to the bucket.
--Speaking if Phil (and risking the jinx, blame me if he tanks after this) but he has been shooting FTs way, way better as of late. We should be getting him the ball way more.
--Defensively we played much better in the first half than we have all year, and the press worked.
--Still doing too much standing around when a shot goes up. All 5 guys need to go to the ball.
--Shout out to the Pres, who quietly played the best perimeter D of the guards down the stretch.
--Shout out to Copeland who played his tail off all game on both ends of the floor. Looked much better defensively.
--A win is a win

However, Yarbrough attempted a stepback 3-pointer with about nine seconds left that missed.
"I would rather he drop-kick it and make it that way," said Muller. "He literally, specifically was told he's not allowed to shoot that exact shot he shot two days ago."

Or maybe, just maybe, call a timeout to set up what you want and reinforce what shots not to take.stats said:ISU FAN 1 said:Muller on MY step back hero shot 3 attempt:

I would have liked to see them run an offensive play in that situation. Milik was ready to set up the offense, but Dan had him bring it back out and dribble time off. When Milik was released, he tried to drive (which I think was the plan), but the defense dropped back so he stepped up and shot. I would have liked to see some movement by the rest of the players so he had more options on that one.

I was furious when Dan left Hein in the game for such a long stretch during final 5 of regulation. I was wrong as that 5
plus the 5 in OT where the Pres. was a key perimeter defender. Excellent contribution from Hein.
JJ - he's in the doghouse. Dan's comments on post game lead me to believe he did something 180 degrees from what he was told. Kind
of like the MY step back 3 at 9 second mark.
Copeland made several poor decision as PG in critical situations though it's clear, he's the PG. He'll must get the consistency back with ball control.
Rey contributed. Chastain/Gass were ok. On a positive front I thought for the first time in multiple games Key did NOT try to do too
much and played stellar D in last 10 minutes along with the Pres. I'll take that for improvement with Keyshawn - gotta start somewhere.
William - nice start. Right next to Muller when the game was on the line.
Game ball for Phil. Tip of the cap to his improved FT's.
I'm always drinking the kool aid and gotta hope they play D in future like they ended yesterday's game - that was enjoyable basketball on the half court D.

What dude...you mean the last remaining player for a Redbird team of relevance? I kid...redbirdron1 said:Happy 90th to that special dude! I can tell, I would love that guy.

I meant to say step back for the 3. I didn't think anyone was open with a cleaner shot. Everyone was standing. My point was for the offense to cause a little confusion for the defense and have some movement. That way you actually have someone to kick it to with a better shot. It seems to be a pretty common theme in college basketball to end a half or game by 4 offensive players clearing out and having one player go one on one. I'm just not a fan, but I guess it is here to stay.Bird Friend said:stats said:ISU FAN 1 said:Muller on MY step back hero shot 3 attempt:

'Cept Milik didn't step up for the shot, he stepped back to take a 3. And even if we're struggling from 3, he could've continued the drive to pull the D and kick to someone with a cleaner shot. Granted, odds are they still miss, but the odds are still better than a step back contested 3.
It wasn't a good shot. We all know that. Wasn't there an 8 or 9 seconds differential on the shot clock? Not sure, just asking. As far as your number one, if he made the shot and put us up by 3, no one would be upset about the time left on the clock. If we were, we could have just fouled them again and got the ball back with a lead instead of a tie. #2 Dan definitely didn't call a step back 3 and it wasn't the play that Dan called. My question is did Dan call any play? or do half the coaches in college basketball in that situation who seem to like players tojust go one on one there?Redbirdmike said:Even if he made that shot. Number one, there was still too much time left on the clock which would have given them a chance to inbound a get a tying 3 off. Second, even if our guys were standing around that clearly was not the play Dan called for - a step back 3!!!???
