Jones seems to check some of the boxes many have called for to help Muller improve:
  • HC experience
  • Success in building a program (and recruiting to a less than ideal destination)
  • Ties and contacts to Illinois schools/players
  • In game experience

Hard to consider this as anything but a solid addition. Will it be enough? I guess we'll see. He had one kid who committed there and also had an offer from the Birds, DeSean Allen-Eikens. DSE seems to fit the Muller mold. Also appears he verbaled but has has not signed his NLI as of yet.

Eikens was on campus at UND this spring and it seems he broke his leg. There are a few mentions of him on the UND MBB twitter page. He's also from North Dakota, though his hometown is five hours away from school.

So he had already enrolled? Interesting. That's a very "fall sport" thing to do . . .

Perhaps the fall explains the broken leg

Excellent Addition.

I watched their games 2 years back and they were well coached and had really good talent as they made the dance. The son of a good friend of mine played there and really liked the coach. This is a very good hire.

The discipline of the UNI background will also be very good.

Brian's senior year at UNI was Stallings' first year at ISU. UNI handed our butts to us in StL and sent us home with nothin. Thanks Brian but besides all that WELCOME to Normal!

I still blame Muller for his untimely death

Yes indeed! There is no doubt about it even though Dan Muller wasn’t even born yet when Brian stepped into the swimming pool. Still Muller’s fault but let’s be clear about one thing. Dan Muller had nothing to do with Mick Taylor leaving the Stones so don’t blame Dan for that. I believe it was Larry’s fault.
I blame Patti V.

Uh....no

She is responsible for the breakup of the Beatles but she had nothing to do with the Stones.

I believe George said to Paul "Oh no not her again".

Patty was an issue between George and Clapton, not the other Beatles. Yoko no no on the other hand...

This is a great get as an assistant coach. Guy led their transition from D2 to D1. He led them into the Big Sky then had to swallow them getting pushed to Summit. Can't blame him for wanting to bolt. Has beaten Drake, Bradley, Northern Iowa, etc in the past.

I agree. A great hire for an assistant. I mentioned Muller needs to spend some of his money and wrestle away a former head coach or great assistant. I like the hire.

Very satisfied with this hire. I'm never sure how much the connections of the HC to a "recruiting territory" matter - as opposed to the assistants - but UND did very well in the Twin Cities. Obviously lots of "non-athletic" kids from Minnesota go to UND, the states have tuition reciprocity, etc., but they have to get some credit for recruiting it well. But if he could open that area to us a little, there's plenty of DI talent up there. Closer than Florida ;)

Geno Crandall from UND was a grad transfer at Gonzaga this year.
