Illinois might actually play us. They historically avoid ISU like the plague when they have even a snowball's chance in hell of losing the game. This year, they are a national championship caliber team with 3 NBA players and probably 6 total pros on that team (when you include guys that will get paid to play international ball or G-League). ISU is one of the youngest teams in the country and still finding its footing- the exact recipe that big orange likes.

I think it's a win-win. These young players should be playing the best possible teams because they really are playing for Valley ball and, to be honest, Valley season 2021-2022 already. This year is ALL about learning the game at the highest level to compete at the top of the Valley next year. (I am prepared for your hate mail).

I guess at this point any game is good. Hopefully the rumor about WIU is true as well.

I wonder what kind of defense Greenville pretends to play. Hopefully they provide something the coaches can use to help the team develop besides a cardio workout.

I am interested in seeing how this plays out. I hate our half court offense. I assume we may run the fewest sets ever.

Outside of this week, Illinois has two games scheduled per week for the remainder of the season.

They aren’t hurting for games like others.

maybe we need to get the person who schedules for Greenville to do the same for us. They have managed to scheduled four D-I schools (us, Kansas City, Murray State, Samford) so far.

Or, the person who does it for Liberty. The Flames swooped in to take the slots we and Northwestern vacated in the Space Coast (renamed Cancun) Challenge/Hall of Fame Classic. They played Purdue/Mississippi State on November 25/26 in Melbourne (FL) and then South Carolina/TCU on November 28/29 in Kansas City (MO). They went 2-2 and all were telecast on CBSSN/ESPNN/ESPN2. Also going to Columbia, MO to play Missouri on December 9.

Enrollment of 1132; school motto is "Different is good." Not exactly Chaucer; closer to Animal House.

BTW, I got the enrollment and motto from that intertube thing that the kids use these days. I have a friend who grew up in Greenville, and I was there for a high school football playoff game that my high school won 63-7 on its way to the Class 3A IHSA championship in 2018, but I had no personal knowledge of the enrollment or motto of Greenville College.

I am sure the options are somewhat limited and its probably better than no game; however, I am wondering if playing against this style of basketball is more detrimental than good. I am happy they got a game but just wondering.

Google "the Grinnell System" and you'll get some descriptions of what this is, in theory at least. The "real" system uses full-court pressure, not sure if that's what Greenville does. Friend of the family went to Grinnell and scored some of their ball games!! Busy guy, he was.

The pool boy scheduled the games in Melbourne, FL. for Liberty.

Looks like UT Martin is headed to Illinois Saturday. Only 4 of 12 MAC schools have a game scheduled Saturday. You would think we could pick up a game with someone.

Something worth keeping an eye on. Luke Yaklich's UIC Flames have a game schedule for 12/5 and not another one until conference play starts 12/19. It'd make a lot of sense and there is a ton of film on UIC, so it would give the Redbirds adequate time to do a real scouting report. It's an easy trip down I55.

Is next week finals? Coach won't schedule anything that week.

Good call. With everything being online this semester, I wonder how many teachers are sticking to the traditional format of finals where you give a specific test at a specific time. I bet some just open up the final at the start of the week and say "take it by the end of the week." I guess in 2020, I didn't even consider these kids were still in class. Student athletes, am I right?

Since the 'birds played in a three team MTE, I believe they are allowed to play up to twenty-six regular season games (meaning eight non-conference). That leaves the potential for (up to) three more games.

My guess is the MVC may start the conference schedule the weekend of 12/26, which gives ten weekends prior to the conference tournament (and allows one week flexibility for re-schedule buffer). If that is true, my guess is they would not want any games after 12/21.

Sounds like Dan has a D2 or D3 team on the hook for Saturday. Meanwhile, Bradley is scheduling and preparing for a 3 Peat in St. Louis.
