He should've went to New Mexico State, just up the road a bit. But maybe he wasn't good enough for them. I saw some of those UTEP/NMSU games; UTEP was pretty good back then and NMSU was in the valley. The good ole days.If you have never been to El Paso then you aren't missing anything. I was always surprised how legendary coach Don Haskins could get high level recruits to come to play basketball in a desert.
I don't know, I like the desert in general and thought El Paso had it's good spots. Campus was nice, Sun Bowl is great, set in the mountains. If you have never been to El Paso then you aren't missing anything. El Paso is a quite a bit different than Phoenix and Tucson. And not in a good way.I don't know, I like the desert in general and thought El Paso had it's good spots. Campus was nice, Sun Bowl is great, set in the mountains.
Arizona in the desert, Arizona State.
Whatever, is there anything you aren't always "right" about?? I know Phoenix and Tucson too.El Paso is a quite a bit different than Phoenix and Tucson. And not in a good way.

The first statement was how could Haskins get anyone to play "in the desert". Nothing said about El Paso. I used a couple of examples of "desert cities".
I said El Paso "had it's good spots" not that it was the greatest city in the world and better than Phoenix or Tucson.

INST, Valpo, and BU have been hit hard so far. UE is losing a pair of good ones as well. The two that the Birds have had transfer are non-factors as it pertains to expectations for next season. That's to say, no one expected them to be Redbirds next season.
Mentioned elsewhere, but Muller let the kids go home after the season ended. So, it's unlikely that they have had their end of season meetings yet to determine who else will be leaving. If ISU only has two more players leave and they aren't Horne, Washington or Fleming, I'd be fine with that.

When Haskins coached, there was still a lot of segregation. The Kentucky team he beat to win the NCAA was all white. So he had a bigger pool to recruit from.If you have never been to El Paso then you aren't missing anything. Not even eight hours later and the D1 pool has grown to 794 players . . . absurd!FWIW, there are 750 names in the D1 portal. And 456 names in the D2 portal. The transfer portal is a hot mess across NCAA. This has got to change. If the NCAA gives players 1 transfer with immediate eligibility . . . it'll be a nightmare for coaches and administrators . . . and the talent gap will widen. Head Coaches will begin hiring poachers for assistants. Which is probably already being done.
There are 4,641 NCAA Men's Basketball Division I scholarships available (357 schools, 13 scholarships per school) at any time. That works out to over 17% (one in six) of them being in the portal (assuming most, if not all, are scholarship players). Not even eight hours later and the D1 pool has grown to 794 players . . . absurd!
