Illinois State (18-15, 10-8 MVC)
Loyola will receive the majority of the preseason notoriety in The Valley, and rightly so. But there’s another potential top-50 team coming out of the MVC, and that’s this Illinois State club. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more talented trio than Milik Yarbrough, Keyshawn Evans, and Phil Fayne in all of mid-major basketball. The trio fits together so perfectly– Yarbrough handles primary creation duties with a 41.4% assist percentage, pairing nicely with a scoring point guard like Evans while Fayne does the dirty work. WIth more depth and some talented newcomers joining the fray, ISU could have a special season.

I don't recall seeing this ISU Preview and Dan Muller interview posted here before. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

He did a quick breakdown of each player outside of the guys we know (Milik, Phil, and Key).

Muller is high on Boogie this season, and thinks he will be a totally different player than last season. Mentioned his progression the last 11 or so games of the season was amazing. I personally expect Boogie to be a big contributor. He just needs to drive to the bucket some more. Muller thinks he will be out leading rebounder due to his length and athleticism.

He reinforces the idea that as lost as Cope and Chas are healthy that they will likely be significant contributors.

Taylor has put on a ton of weight and was unfairly thrown into action last season, despite having a few good games. He is expects Taylor to have a "significant" jump during his soph season. He also will be playing at 220, compared to 205 from last season.

Rey is really physical, athletic, and a great learner. He brings the physicality that the team didn't have last season.

He mentions Josh Jefferson, who shot 44% from 3 as a pure scorer.

Lastly, he mentions Abdou- who is long and has high potential. Abdou has a chance to be a really good player as he gets older.

Hein and Ike were mentioned in passing.

Other than the 4 seniors, Copeland, and Chas, rotations spots are up for grabs. IMO they seem to be between Jefferson, Rey, and Taylor, with Ike and Hein as after thoughts.

Overall, Muller says the overall skill level of the team has increased and its going to be tough determining who gets what minutes.

Kind of depends. If Ndiaye is ineligible then he is the 12th guy. A couple guys don'the dress and he's 10th. Up by 25 with 3 minutes left he may see a few minutes. Even if Ndiaye is eligible he could dress as the 12th with even 1 injury. Still might see trash minutes. Of course this assumes only 12 dress. Or is that the NBA and 14 can dress in college? Anyway, I'll take that bet if he's even a part of the team. He's not listed on the roster.

Must've signed an under the radar 2-way deal with a small team in some Asian market.

Hi 1Bird,

I do not know alot about Matt other than his stats at Loyola. I know from reading and listening it seems everyone is pretty high on Matt to maybe be a solid contributor.? Loking at your roster evaluation it is pretty darn interesting. Copeland being ranked #4 over Tinsley excites me. Is that why you have #'s?

HUGE Redbird fan here who just found the message board. I am in NY right now but from Bloomington. Hoping my dad gets to see his dream come true with this team! That is my one wish!

Thanks
:)
