Who is/was lead recruiter for Trace?

Pretty sure Yak

Yep. Coach Reese doesn't even follow him on twitter. Maybe he'll see where Yak and Haynes are headed and realize this is a great place to be if he wants to play B1G ball. Maybe Yak will say, "I know I'm leaving but I meant everything I said about ISU and your role there." Who knows.

Is he still only 180. Don't think he would be a starter for us. Can't see him playing his freshman year at any of the P5 Programs. Maybe, he goes Juco for 1 year with hopes of bigger offers.

He's probably 210-215 now. Where ever he goes next year, it will be with hopes of bigger offers.

When does Trace have to make a decision? I'm assuming he wants to play somewhere this fall, right?

I asked the same question on the last board shortly before it crashed. I would assume he has until classes start to enroll and sign up.

Yup. Theoretically it could even be after classes officially start as most places allow kids an extra week or two to enroll in a class.

What could he possibly be waiting for? Someone to mysteriously leave their (P-5) program?
It's very likely that's the case.
It's also very likely he's getting some piss poor advise from an "expert" who has his ear. Remind you of anyone? Six years from now he'll be at college #7.

I would not recommend missing playing the summer before your freshman year with your new teammates and getting to know them and the coaches but I guess it has some logic to it. Waiting any longer to commit and potentially missing a week or two of classes is moronic regardless of where a player lands.

I'll bet that is right on the money.

Anything new here? Seems he needs to be enrolling somewhere.......

I was just wondering the same thing. I can't believe he would take a year off? One recruiting site had him 100% going to Ole Miss, but I didn't see anything announced. I have to admit, I'm a little obsessed with Trace Young. I need closure!

This is one of the more strange recruiting situations I have followed first hand. Young is not committed anywhere, especially not Ole Miss. Like we thought, he was holding out for a bigger offer all summer and it never came. Now, he is at a point where he has waited so long our interest cooled along with the other schools that stayed with him (INST and Troy). I have a feeling Gassman getting the scholarship indicates we have moved on from Young. I think the kid has ran out of options and will likely find a JuCo to spend a year at before transferring to a lower level D1.

Honestly, this is a Lofton-like case. He evaluated himself higher as a player than colleges were after his initial recruiting boom. Academically, he fell off after receiving the offers in 2014 (WKU, Samford, Morehead State), 2015 (USC, DePaul, USF, Murray State, and Kansas State) because he felt he had D1 basketball in the bag.. He no more offers came in until Illinois State in May 2017 followed by Troy and INST.

Here is a list of interest he had http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Trace-Young-82511/RecruitInterests. Look at the lack of offers. There is a very, very low percentage Young is playing D1 ball this year.

It's a shame. He is a talented player that let what is between the ears get in his way.

The following teams have been in contact.
Southwest Tennessee Community College.
Palm Beach State
Tallahassee CC

Thanks Source! It's sad for sure. I know in football they have something called a 'greyshirt', like with what's happening with Buffalomeat. He arrives in spring, gets to workout with the team, then plays in the fall..so he gets basically 4 1/2 years. I don't think there's an equivalent in Basketball...like let the kid begin in the in spring, and let him work out, etc. Then he gets to play in the fall. Looks like Trace was rate as a 3+ type of recruit. So he must've have really messed up.

Pure speculation but I would bet there is more to the story than what has been made public. ie non-qualifier?, trouble in the past?, attitude?...etc.
Something amiss as none of this makes sense and it seems nearly all universities are taking a pass.

Back before the board crashed, we had a tweet from his AAU coach--I believe--saying that Young had qualified academically. I honestly think it's a case of nobody coming in to scoop him up like he expected once his academics were cleared. That suggests a bit of an attitude issue if only that he thinks he's better than the offers he has so far.

Correct on all counts. He was cleared academically held out, and then realized D1 teams were not going to wait forever.

I'd still bet he's had a jigga in his ear. Just sayin.
If he doesn't enroll anywhere his clock doesn't start so he's got that going for him.
Which is nice.
