I have heard from a reliable source that Trace will not be going to college, but is in training to earn a spot overseas and possibly tryout for the draft in a year or 2.

I guess Mount Zion Prep is a pro team overseas?

I think it would be hard to classify them as a true prep school.

They're definitely a basketball "school."

Good luck to him! If he's still someone we're interested in, hopefully he qualifies.
Wow! Thanks for sharing. I hadn't given it much thought to look up the "school" he is at but man, they are for sure focused on basketball. I'm sure there are schools all over the country like this (MiKyle went to one), I just hadn't looked at it before.

Bet he ends up playing in Lavar Ball’s new Junior Basketball Association.

“I was able to pick up a lot of interest from schools like Ole Miss, Illinois State and Michigan,” Young told Prep Hoops. “Ole Miss and Texas Tech were actually my top two schools, but then I found out I was less than a half of a credit short, so I had to do a prep year.”

Young has many of the offers still available from his high school days in Kentucky, but Canisius has been the newest offer thrown his way. Maryland, Rutgers and Howard have also shown interest recently. Young told Prep Hoops he doesn’t have any favorites at the moment, but has a certain priority list he is using while enjoying the recruiting process.

Ole Miss=lower level high-major
Illinois State: middle to high level mid major
Michigan: Middle level high major.

That is quite the range of schools for this kid. I like keeping an eye on his progress because he is crazy talented. I'm thinking that thing in between his ears is getting in his way. This article also confirms that TY was not academically qualified like one of his fan boys who came to the board suggested. I doubt we're still in touch but this kid's journey will be a fun one to track.

I kept waiting for him to sign with us all summer, but it never happened...sigh.

So apparently a "re-offer" is a thing. Trace was offered by Indiana State in May of last year. They offered him again Mar 31. He also holds offers from Canissius, North Texas, Howard, and Wyoming.

Indiana State's Clayton Hughes reached out on Twitter to facilitate recruiting. He's also had some interaction with players/other commits from Wyoming.

His entire recruitment was really strange. I've been following it since we offered. He had some p6 offers in 2015 (KState, VaTech, Depaul,) which would have been the start of his sophomore year of HS. Then he cooled off completely. No offers until May 2017, when us, Indiana State, and Troy jumped in. Apparently, he was half a credit(?) short of qualifying out of his first prep school/high school and had to go to another one where he was supposedly recruited hard by Maryland. I don't know what kind of school systems gives out half credits, unless every class represents a half credit, in that case he shouldn't have been surprised when he didn't qualify. His second round of offers came from Indiana State, Canisius, North Texas, Howard, and Wyo.

Committing to Wyoming puts him back on the court with his Mount Zion Prep teammate, Tariq Johnson.

Good thing is we'll get to track his progress a little bit through the MVC-MWC Challenge. I'm not exactly sure of all of the matchups for this year's challenge games, but Wyo finished 6th last season, and Indiana State finished 6th in our league.

Certainly talented, but will be a high maintenance player off the court.

I went to Normal West. Almost all of their classes are half credits. 6 half credits equals 3 credits per semester and 6 credits per year and you have to have 24 to graduate...at least that;s how it was in 2003.

Just a heads up on the multiple posts.

But you think he'd know if he was missing a whole class. It was framed as "just a half credit short."

Has spent time at Wyoming and most recently at Alabama State. His coach resigned yesterday and he's a JR with up to two years of eligibility. Not that there would be interest from the Birds, just thought it was an interesting story. He was a high-level guy when the Birds were recruiting him. Played in 20 games, started 14 averaging 11.7/5.5. 34% from 3, 81% from the line.
