That’s pretty generous! I would say 500 in the upper bowl at max! In the lower bowl...hard to believe more than 2000!

You do know all of that is done electronically right? There is nothing being generous.

Just you being biased. #YourEYEtestSUCKS

Thoughts from yesterday.

Rey getting praise. Well, he did make the 3 layups and that's great but don't expect this young man
to make a turnaround from anything past 2' out. He's a project on playing the 5. Still think he's got potential
as a shot put guy for Track and Field squad.

Why did Gass enter the game well ahead of JJ in first half??? JJ not behaving in practice with his D is my thought.
I know you guys say JJ brings spark off the bench but he's got starter written all over him and could be playing ahead
of my man Key at this point. Key was a tad better though - he must be worried about the injury with his poor D???

Milik and Fayne were on cruise control for the most part. Probably fatigue as stated.

Copeland is getting better. And William found a spot to make his 3 3's. Unfortunately as he hoisted from other spots on the
floor it showed his limitations.

Looking forward to next string of games.

I loved the lineup with Rey playing the 5 and Phil playing the 4. If they can perfect it...it could be dangerous.

Don't expect them to try it too often until Bruninga gets back. I don't think we would have seen it yesterday if the Birds hadn't run away with it in the second half. The post depth right now is: 1-Phil, 2-Rey, if you want to go farther 3-Milik, 4- Chas, 5-Boogie. I'm thinking they won't consistently wanting the last 3 guarding the other teams 5. The scoring margin allowed us to try some different things.

I do like Rey. He's the most ready freshman big we've had in a long time (since Jackie?) I know it was against a d2 with no size but his layups were by way of smart plays. Good pick and rolls, and good hands. There was one that Milik fired a pass through several defenders and Rey had the ability to keep his eye on it and put it in for an easy 2. With the last big we had do that, the ball would have went off his hands and sailed out of bounds.

I continue to be impressed with Jefferson. His jumper is smooth and quick. I love that he is showing his ability to score in multiple ways and not just as a shooter. Copeland is starting to come around too with scoring but his usefulness has been that Assist to TO ratio. Play.maker.

Overall, the team did play with more fire on the defensive end, but there is still a long way to go. I give them credit for the effort they did show. They got to Normal around 1 a.m. Friday morning, had a light practice Friday afternoon, and a game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Lastly, I'm not a huge fan of the half court offense yet. Duhon brought it with him from Marshall. There seems to be two base sets: a weave with a high ball screen to open a dribble, drive, kick out at the top of the key, or what we showed a lot yesterday, the primary ball handler goes into the corner and gets a screen from there. Both sets have a lot of ball movement and both clearly are designed to over rotate the defense. But if you meet a disciplined team that communicates on all switches (Kind of like Augie), it's not really challenging to defend. I would love to see some more post touches for Phil and Chas. Chastains turnaround dirk-like jumper is nice. But he only seems to touch the ball twice per game on the offensive end.

Ya know,, telling folks to move down to the lower bowl is a pretty risky proposition. Some will then not buy the more expensive, singe game lower bowl tix, hurting revenue. This is why you will never ever hear any program do this. Full disclosure -- this is from a guy who has owned upper bowl season tix since RA opened.

And yeah, Our announced attendance number is butts in the seats. You can tell the debbie downers by how they always seem to guess way low. If you want padded numbers, head over to the Bradley box scores.

I'd also add that Jefferson threw a couple of a really nice passes into the post when he drove. Overall, he has been a heck of a recruit, and the perfect compliment to our big 3.

I agree 100% with this. We need more post touches overall. I'd throw posting Yarbs up more in there as well, especially when he is guarded by a smaller guy. We have played our best offensively this year when we have played from the inside out.

I also wouldn't be opposed to Chas getting more offensive touches. I think he is getting his legs back more and more and has a decent jumper that will start falling. I also love that he is always going for the ball on both ends of the court, and so long as he keeps doing it, I want to keep seeing him on the floor. I wish more of our guys did this.

His behind the other guys back pass was a thing of beauty.

It makes me laugh when people think Rey can play the 5 and we will be competitive. Rey will be good but if he is playing a lot of minutes this year it is the same as getting excited about Gassman.

What is it you don’t like about Rey or think that he’s missing that makes you think this?

I like Rey a lot. My point is simply that where he is at in his development he is not ready to be playing major minutes and ISU be competative for a league title. He played well against a D2 opponent.

Agree with everyone on Jefferson. I honestly would like to see him starting and Evans come off the bench. It would make us defensively better at the start of games. Evans is finding his shot and could bring some offensive immediately off the bench.

The offense looked much more competent with Evans at the point. Theres no way he should be coming bbn off the bench.

Also, Rey is going to be a very solid player for us. His hands are plus plus, and once the defensive end slows down a bit for him, I think some of you will come around on him. I like his game.

I agree that the offense looks totally different the last two games. It’s like the switch finally clicked on for some of them including Evans. When Tinsley is hitting it’s crazy how much better we are. He just need to find some consistency.

Yet ISU only counts tickets scanned for the game. So, the 3737 means that's how many tickets were scanned.

Going into the game, I was going to count Stupid Passes and Dumb shots - first half I got 8 and 4, second half was better at 4 and 3 - for a total of 12 Stupid Passes and 7 Dumb shots. Of course, I did not have a category for mindless dribbling into a crowd to lose the ball - that was 4. Although Gassman was 0-6 from three - only counted one of those as a Dumb shot - in hindsight, maybe all should be. Sad part is - the majority of these passes and shots are coming from Seniors - very frustrating.

I did not consider the fatigue aspect - but, I would agree with that as a factor.

As for attendance - I thought it was around 3,500-3,700 - based on experience. The problem for you folks who only watch on TV - the cameras only show one side - the least populated side. As for the Upper Bowl to Lower Bowl - I choose to sit in the Upper Bowl to see better. If I wanted to sit in the lower bowl yesterday - I could have easily, walked down and sat there. I had season tickets ONE year in the lower bowl - it Sucked, way to snobbish for me - the folks in the Upper Bowl tolerate me because I yell a lot.

I like Rey a lot. My point is simply that where he is at in his development he is not ready to be playing major minutes and ISU be competative for a league title. He played well against a D2 opponent.

Let's do a comparison between Rey and Phil to see how much Rey is producing. Granted, it's a small sample size of only 7 games, 2 of which are D2 opponents. But they've both played against the same competition. Let's look at what each player is averaging per 40 minutes:

Phil: 22.25 pts 8.54 rbds 2.92 O-rbds 5.62 D-rbds 5.62 fouls 0.67 assts 2.47 TOs 2.92 blks

Rey: 12.63 pts 13.16 rbds 3.68 O-rbds 9.47 D-rbds 2.63 fouls 0.53 assts 1.05 TOs 1.58 blks

Here's Phil's first year (a year older AND our only real option underneath)
Phil: 14.87 pts 10.31 rbds 4.09 O-rbds 6.23 D-rbds 3.72 fouls 0.74 assts 1.63 TOs 1.86 blks

I know you think he's not good enough (yet) to help us win against D1 competition, but I think he's comported himself quite well. He's a true frosh who doesn't foul and gobbles up rebounds. He has good hands and a softer touch around the basket than I anticipated at this point. It also seems that he doesn't put the ball on the floor when he catches it, and when he feels the double-team he passes out. If he gives us 15 mins/game, I think he's an asset that will really help us through the season.

Seemed to me that the Birds were making a concerted effort in the 2nd half to get the ball to Ike to take the shot. They're trying to get him out of his shooting funk and Lindenwood was a good team to do this against. I don't think you'll see him much against BYU, SDSU, or Ole Miss . . . unless his shot starts falling.

I like keeping Jefferson coming off the bench. I think you need scoring off the bench. I dont think right now he is better than Key defensively. Not that Key is great but neither is Jefferson, for me that's his weak spot.

I've really like Key being a facilitator, he doesnt over dribble like a couple of our others and is a solid passers. I think he is settling into the actual PG spot.

Evans crafty and generally a good shooter. Evans not a playmaking PG that can create shots/baskets for others.

He hasn't been in his time here, no. He is doing more of it the last 2 games and actually looks comfortable creating for others.

I think having Rey on the team is the real reason Chicago St. didn't start a fight with us last game

Thanks for the response. Let's simplify it then and apply it to only Lindenwood and Cleveland State (December 16th) while students are gone. Let's only open it up to the seats behind the basket where the students sit. Lindenwood was the equivalent of an exhibition game since they weren't division 1. Cleveland State pre-season was ranked 290th. I believe their only division 1 win has been against SC State with a pre-season is 341st. Nevertheless, the place will be empty and the product will be bad. I think bringing down the lower bowl people could help revenue in the long run because these are your most likely candidates to get lower bowl season tickets in the future. Let's get them involved. It will only help the atmosphere, which will be needed in this game.
